Forums - Movies & TV - RIP George Romero

George Romero passed away on July 16th, aged 77.

"On the morning of July 16, 2017, Romero, age 77, died in his sleep following a "brief but aggressive battle with lung cancer", according to a statement by his longtime producing partner, Peter Grunwald. Romero died while listening to the score of one of his favorite films, The Quiet Man, with his wife, Suzanne Desrocher Romero, and daughter, Tina Romero, at his side"

RIP you magnificant man.

I loved growing up with Romero's movies, from Night of the Living Dead to Day of the dead remake. He was always the one I would refer to when talking about zombie films or games. Dead Island had a slight Romero vibe, though that was eventually topped off for me with Dying Light, which featured the right kind of atmosphere and music that reminded me of those old Romero films.

Come this halloween, I'll try watching all of Romero's horror movies in order to rekindle some nostalgic memories of a great man and the inspiration he had given to others worldwide.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

Yeah, that's a crazy coincidence, I just watched Dawn of the Dead a few days ago, and my uncle gave me Day of the Dead and Creepshow. So it is very eerie thinking of that.

Martin Landau also died Saturday. My condolences to both families.

Dawn of the Dead is in my personal top 10 greatest movies of all time. It gets better every time I watch it.

What surprised me was how Dawn of the Dead didn't really seem like a horror movie. This scene is pure action, for example:

As a zombie lover Romero's contribution cannot be over stated. Every "rule" of modern zombies are traced back to Romero and his orignal Dead trilogy still holds up, with each entry being dramatically different.

Thank you George.

Both of these deaths shocked the hell out of me. Not to mention two coworkers. One in a car accident and one by suicide. And one of my wife's acquaintances died in an accident this month, too.

Death isn't playing around.
