So its simple textures, and geometric shapes often that make up things.... but how can you not look at this and think, yes! Mario is back baby and smile? you cant not.

Game is gonna be epic, and hopefully nintendo stays with this style of mario going forwards.

8-bit style platforming? Is that unique to this stage? Or are we getting it elsewhere too?

Its everywhere. Also tons of puzzles and mini games :)

As long as I have my classic, level-based Mario experience I won't complain. I know that some people were craving for a more exploration-based Mario experience, and I get that Nintendo wants to do that. But I think Mario games, with more exploration-based elements are weaker. SM64 and Sunshine are the worst 3D Mario games imho. Every game is great, sure, but I prefer games like Galaxy 1/2 or 3DWorld generally. It could do with a classic 2D Mario, I really want that.

I dont think 3DWorld is in the same league as the others (galaxy,64,sunshine). I hope its the last of its kinde they do.

Also 2D and level based platforming, I think DKC beats mario.

My hope is that they dont do another "classic level based one".

I think it hurts Nintendo too much.

N64, Wii, GC, Nintendo all had "true" 3D exploration collecthaton open-world ish 3D mario's.

Wii U is the one time, they "broke" the cycle, and dispite selling well I think it hurt them console sales wise.

People arnt looking at Mario for 2D classic platforming anymore, they expect nintendo to deliver something more.

I think there's room for both experiences. Level based Mario games have always sold pretty well, as it catters an audience who's craving for more of that. Nintendo is pretty good in keeping those experiences fresh, I really loved NSMBU and 3DWorld level design, and the new gameplay mechanics implementations in both of them. I think that normally people think that those experiences are "more of the same", but they're not imho. It's a formula that works, and what's not broken, doesn't need any fix.  Just some new ideas to keep the formula fresh.

I'm obviously not complaining about Odyssey existence. Despite thinking that the more open-world Mario experiences are weaker, they're still great games. And it's about time that they deliver more of that again with Odyssey. There's an audience for that. I'm surely hyped about it too. But I have my reservations with it, sadly. So, as I said, I'll probably not be very happy if they totally ditch level-based Mario experiences. They're probably my favourite games ever, so you can understand my frustration XD.

And Wii hasn't had any open-world ish 3D Mario as long as I'm concerned. Galaxy games are totally level-based, and not in a different league as 3DWorld.

I wonder how many kingdoms will be in odyssey? Perhaps 20 with each containing 6 moon pieces that would total 120.

Mario games are really always great, and seems this one continues the tradition

Realistically, when Nintendo said they were going back to the 64/Sunshine style, they should have just said 64. In Sunshine you couldn't go off the path to get different Shrines in the same mission. Either way, this looks to be the one game that might give Breath of the Wild a run for it's money for GOTY. Here's to hoping it's the best Mario ever.

That shot has really good art-direction going on. Makes me wish Nintendo would try to make CG movies in the future.
