Forums - Sales - Wii: 7 million-sellers (err... shippers)

Clearly you're mestaken about Rayman and Red Steel. Third Parties don't sell on Nintendo systems.

I agree. Crappy games 3rd parties slap together and sell on Nintendo systems do not sell. However, I remember RE4, a very well developed game, was a great selling game on the GC. Red Steel, while not great, is by no means crap.

Red Steel did feel rushed, but it also felt like nothing I had ever palyed before. First try at FPS + Sword Fighting. Very good first effort. Also, because of all the hype, I too was expecting an Amazing game overall. It was good, though repetitive. Red Steel 2 should be much better.

It was a launch game, it had to be rushed.

A mediocre game like Red Steel sold a mill, wii owners must be starved for games.

I really like Red Steel - its a lot better than most people give it credit for.

Shipping 1m units for a "launch" title is really no big deal. It should sell 1m worldwide (long-term, not sure where it is at?).

Shams... Red Steel sell-through is at 380K on 450K units shipped to America. They've shipped 510K to "others," so sell-through is probably higher there. It might sit around 800K? Reaching 1 million in sell-through will be a slow burn, but it will happen. Rayman on the other hand... Sold through 468K on 580K shipments to America, with 410K sold to "others." So its sell-through may also sit around 800K. However, its still selling pretty well, with 9K NA last week. Put it on the shelves for $30 while running ads for the sequel during the Xmas buildup, and there's no way it won't sell-through 1 million this year.

"[Our former customers] are unable to find software which they WANT to play."
"The way to solve this problem lies in how to communicate what kind of games [they CAN play]."

Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President. Only slightly paraphrased.

According to this site's WW million shipment list, Super Paper Mario, Rayman Raving Rabbids and Red Steel are the 5th, 6th, and 7th Wii games to ship 1 million copies around the world. Actual sell-through is probably only a month behind for Paper Mario, several more months for Rayman (though it will almost certainly hit the mark this Fall, with a reduced price and a sequel renewing interest), and for Red Steel until next year maybe.

Big Brain Academy, Mario Party 8, Mario Strikers, Metroid Prime 3 and Pokemon Battle Revolution are all probable million-sellers coming out before Fall. The more interesting 3rd party games to watch include Tiger Woods 08, Madden 08, Sonic and the Secret Rings, and Guitar Hero 3.

In comparison, PS3 still only has 1 game to ship 1 million copies, and 360 has 16, with the newest being Guitar Hero II.

Aren't you forgetting about super smash brawl?

They were games "coming out before Fall" if it didn't say that, i would also be asking about Galaxy

Most people dont think this but I bet RE4 will hit 1 mil+. This is considered one of the best games ever made. Now with a discount price and Wiimote controls I think it will surprise a lot of people with its sales.

Red Steel is a fresh approach. To develop for the Wii is quite daunting. No longer will third party publishers will port games...they will have to start from scratch and bring forth fresh ideas. Red Steel was a bit tough on the controlling but remember, it was the first next gen FPS. They say wii Wii owners (heh heh i said wee wee) are starved for games? Of course! We actually got a good console in our hands. As for you threatened fanboys...what? What did you say? You have no games? Oh my! Tis be true! Allack the PS3 has no games! PS. I own a 360. I support somewhat the MS populous.

Wii's endeavor into games will be an uphill battle on the front of not only winning back third party support but dealing with the time it takes for people to learn how to ultilize the wiimote features. Eventually third party developers will realize full utilization of the wiimote isn't necessary like a lot of DS games (which don't use the stylist). The Wii is fast growing from the cute novelty everyone saw it as to the domineering force of this generation. People can say the Wii isn't directly competeing with the 360 and PS3 but that's honestly kind of naive. The Wii is winning the game by playing it on their own terms, not the competition's, ironically this is percieved by many to be the Wii trying to avoid direct competition. Oh well, everyone's a market analysist when it comes to gaming I guess.
