I still remember being a small fanboy and being really upset at Sony over that FFVII magazine ad. I wanted Nintendo to put them in their place.

Exactly. Nintnedo walked out on Sony when Sony could've easily walked out on them in the beginning. They were using kutaragi behind sonys back and they could've fired kutaragi and cut the deal with nintnedo but decided to co-exist with nintnedo. They actually were going to fire kutaragi in the beginning too until the president saved his ass.
I like the games, but the company not as much. They have had some horrible PR in the past, have blatantly ripped from Nintendo's successes, and made industry moves specifically to destroy Nintendo. MS, on the other hand, has wanted to acquire Nintendo in the past and has maintained a much friendlier and healthier relationship with them, especially for the industry. MS has other problems, but I at least respect how they have handled Nintendo and vice versa.
Having said all that, Sony has been much much better this generation in how they approach their competition and what they offer their customers, and I think consumers and others in the industry have taken notice.
You should have been here in 2007. We even had new terms like Wii360 fans who basically drooling and getting insanely happy with the Wii's sales number and were laughing with the Sony sales and fans (some fans deserved to be laughed with tho).
90's were different you turned on the television and you saw crash calling out nintendo/mario (imagine if someone did the same this gen XD).
Games that were in the works to also appear on N64 became exclusive to Playstation or time exclusive like tomb raider
Read about how Square got a financial investment boost and moved to a bigger office in Tokyo and opened a new one in santa monica and bam FFVII will not appear on N64.
thing is Sony just did what Sega/nintendon't.

Sony doesn't want to destroy Nintendo. Nintnendo was using Sony employees behind their back and Sony tried to make a business relationship. When Nintendo read the contract at Ces for the super nes add on they walked out on Sony. Nintnedo is like that with third party and have a history of doing that. Sony was going to write off the gaming industry but the guy who nintnedo was using to make the snes cd convinced Sony to salvage the project and go head to head with nintnedo and thus the PlayStation was born. Nintnedo does not directly face Sony. They stopped trying after the GameCube for sure. They circumvent them. Sony turned the industry into something larger than nintnedo expected in a shorter period of time.
think about what you said with Microsoft as well. Look at what Microsoft did to rare. Imagine them owning nintnedo now.
You think those salty Nintendo fans will actually post and admit it to us? lol

Yep. Sony capitalized as well because sega botched their launch with the Saturn and pissed off third party. They launched the Saturn ahead of schedule.

There are plenty of Nintendo fans that don't like Sony, and you will find most of those people had N64's and were pissed off when they kept hearing about how well the PS1 was doing. |
I really don't see Nintendo fans like that on this site. Maybe if you go to Youtube or other websites you can. However those places are filled with trolls of all kind. I wouldn't be surprised if there are Sega fanboys waiting for Sega's inevitable comeback. It has been 20 years since the 90s. I don't think people hold grudges over that.

I've seen the bias from nintnedo fans. It's very real. I was apart of the Wii60 group on vgc in 2008. Nintnedo fans would side with Microsoft but don't realize Microsoft is worse for the health of game development than Sony.
| LethalP said: We've all heard the story of the Nintendo and Sony dispute in the 90's, and of course how Sony went on to take most of the marketshare and Nintendo's dominance away from them. Are there any Nintendo fans that feel a little bitter about that? Not hate or anything (although you might?) but I was always curious about it. I like both Nintendo and Playstation, one for their first party and the other for the overall library. So I'm glad Sony are here and are basically keeping the AAA gaming industry afloat. What about you? |
It's odd seeing people refer to the dispute as something you've "heard about". Am I getting old? Am I part of the minority now that grew up during that time?
