VG Chartz reader (seldom a poster) - Joined November of 2007!

rocketpig...you don't seem (from many of your posts/replies) to be a very pleasant individual (especially for a "mod"). Many of the posts I read on here anger or annoy me as well; take a step back, wait a few minutes/hours before replying or simply don't get involved at all. As an individual who has been given a position of (I guess) power or as a representative of the VG Chartz community, your comments don't speak well of you or the website.

I'm actually quite pleasant to most people. MikeB has an amazing ability to bring out the worst in me. We go around like this about once a month.

Welcome to the board, BTW.

I think it speaks much better for the website to have members that can freely speak their minds.

Oh, shut your pie hole.

I can make you sad too. Just watch.

Thanx for the "welcome" rocketpig...I will continue to "tuff (tough) it out" and enjoy the benefits of the site, and reading the boards.

this guy is patcher

I am not sure what "patcher" refers to (a person I assume); I can assure you I am not "patcher".  My name is Rob (35) and I live in Vancouver, BC Canada.

Funny. You quoted my own TV to me. Cute.

Still, having a hard time finding 1080p mentioned anywhere.

Sorry to jump in here.

http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/hitachi-p50h401/4505-6482_7-32331463.html

 From the site you linked:
Hitachi's P50H401 is hardly a typical plasma, however. Its spec sheet proclaims "HD1080" resolution, which sounds a bit like "1080p" but most decidedly is not

Or another part :

Unlike most 50-inch plasmas, which have native resolutions of 1,366x768 or 1,920x1,080 pixels, the P50H401 claims a native resolution of 1,280x1,080. Hitachi calls this resolution "HD1080," but it's similar to the company's old ALiS system in that the vertical resolution (the all-important "1080" part) isn't comprised of discrete pixels. Like all other non-CRT HDTVs, the Hitachi converts all incoming signals to match its native resolution.

1080i and 1080p are similar families of resolutions, only one are resolutions scanned progressively and the others are being displayed interlaced, like is the case with 480i/p family resolutions. Progressively scanned is better though.

Blu-Ray movie content and FullHD TVs all support 1920 x 1080 as a minimal standard, so that's probably the core of the confusion here. There is no such standard for games like there is for Blu-Ray movies, but anything below 720p is not rendering in a high definition resolution (many early 360 games, a few multiplatform games like COD4 on both platforms and Halo 3).

1080i and 1080p only share the number "1080". That's it. After all, how do 720p televisions display 1080i? Do they suddenly grow 360 pixels? Is black voodoo magic involved?

Mike, provide me a link showing that 1280x1080 is 1080p and I'll shut up. Small problem... You can't do it and you're too damned stubborn to admit you're wrong. You also won't stop misleading people with false information. Give. It. Up.

wow did this thread get derailed.

OT: typical PR spin. If he is referring to Nintendo, than he is a complete idiot. If he is referring to M$, he does have a thread of truth (Halo 3, BioShock, and ME are already out) but I still fail to understand how GeoW 2 is a step backwards.....

@rocketpig

gotta admire your resiliency...

Not trying to be a fanboy. Of course, it's hard when you own the best console eve... dang it
