Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo DS Piracy in East Asia: How it's Done

@dsoverpsp

This is a standard DS piracy kit. It is rampant worldwide, it's just sold a lot more blatantly is lesser developed countries. It requires no modification or firmware alteration like the PSP does. It's actually quite surprising that the PSP is the one with the big reputation for piracy. The R4 cart (centre) is the shape of a standard DS cart. The Micro SD card (top right) can be plugged into a usb port using the adapter (bottom left) and the roms are copied onto it along with software from the disc. The Micro SD card then slots into the R4 in the hole you can see at the top. It is used to play pirated DS games, music and films. Nintendo appear to be doing little to combat it other than helping police when they do a raid.

I got one of these devices and can play Nes games on my DS as well, probally emulators for many other systems too. there easy to get online $40 maybe $60 with a 2gig micro SD.

Hey I have one of those r4s, not for piracy though. I use it for music movies text files, and home brew games.

edit: Oh and nes,genesis,saturn,snes,gb,and gba emulators. Which I really don't consider piracy since I only download the games I have alreadly.
