Forums - Nintendo - I predict a new DS design this year or early next year

I believe that Nintendo will release a new DS design at the end of this year or early next year. The GBA had new models every two years, 2001, 2003, 2005.

Also, the Wii will be two years old, meaning that no new Nintendo hardware will be released for over two years. You can't tell me they haven't been working on something all this time.

I give a small chance that a mobile phone device will be announced within the next year.

I think it will just be some new hardware features and games to go along with them.

There were rumours of a second redesign a few months back. But of course, "Nintendo doesn't comment on rumours and speculation."

It would be worth their while in terms of the hardware boost from people who go "wow, NEW" and from the savings they'd make from cut-costs.

I think that might be Microsoft who says that, but who knows, maybe a lot of companies say that.

They all do in this industry.

I think a super slim in on the horizon. With the GBA Micro they dropped the GB slot to make it smaller. They could drop the GBA slot which would result in a much smaller DS. Also, newer components will drain the battery less which will further reduce the size.

What reason is there to release a new model of DS? The only country where sales are sagging is Japan, and that's largely due to sheer saturation of ownership (about 1 in 5 people own a DS in Japan at this point; that's a huge saturation rate for a single game system, especially for Japan). There's really no need to make the system any lighter, nor would adding new features make existing users very happy.

Sky Render - Sanity is for the weak.

I agree with your assessment that there will be new DS hardware this year, but disagree with your implication that the Wii will not be getting a redesign in its lifetime.

Chances are, there will be some built-in flash memory to take real advantage of the Wii's ability to deliver DS demos, and it will spark a much bigger increase in sales than the GBA micro engendered.

But, again, I have no reason to beleive a Wii remodel wasn't in the works before the Wii istelf was launched. I am fairly certain they planned an update to the Wii long before they started pumping them out in the factories.

You do not have the right to never be offended.

I agree on 1 point, getting rid of the gba slot would save alot of space, but then again thy cant really reduce it much more after all, the 2 screens take up alot so all they can do is make it thinner again which is nearly pointless because the ds lite is thin already.

To the battery issue, the ds lasts far longer than the psp does, dont get me wrong here, i like my psp far more, but a handheld gaming device isnt usually made for you to be sitting at home playing on it for 8 hours straight is it? There is no need fo a DS re-design but there will be one, not for a while I dont think though.

I heard that there won't be a slot 2 so it will be extra thin, and cheaper.
