Forums - Gaming - Skyrim Nintendo Switch vs Xbox One S Special Edition Graphics Comparison

I'll wait on DF for a detailed comparison, but even if we had no Switch footage at all it'd be fairly easy to predict what it will look like. The Special Edition is effectively still a 7th gen game, but will easily scalable elements updated (textures, effects, etc). The Switch is obviously more than capable of running a 7th gen title, so it's just a matter of finding an appropriate middle ground with those improved elements.

Not like anybody is buying Skyrim cus it's pretty

Not surprising the Xbox version looks nicer, though I wonder why they would add in a 200% zoom version, as that would ruin the image quality regardless

The Xbox is clearly superior.

The image looks soft on the Switch likely attributed to it's sub-par resolution.
It's lighting, shadowing and texturing also seems to be a step down.

Still. Wait on the Digital Foundry.

You are aware these are taken from a compressed YouTube trailer vs direct feed gameplay and most are 200x zoomed in?  The resolution and even texture and shadow detail can't be judged for crap with this.

The general lighting and rendering sorta can, and jt is in line with the Special Edition.

Hence the "Wait on Digital Foundry".

And yes you can judge them if the sources are equally taken, placed together and encoded together into the video stream. Both images should then suffer equivalent degradation.

Indeed. Hopefully Digital Foundry does a proper comparison at some point.

Not worth the extra $200 if you ask me. It looks good enough on the Switch.

To be clear, not saying they're identical, they are not.  The Xbone version appears to have a slight edge in a few asset quality areas and it would seem the god rays have been scaled back or omitted in the Switch version.  It's a very similar build though.

it's skyrim, without mods looks like shit everywhere. even the special edition.

Nice to know Switch can run X360 games.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

What isn't worth 200 extra dollars? Xbox One S is cheaper than the Switch.
