I would say that Splatoon, Pikmin, and Xenoblade X for a start all make statements which could be considered political. I think Reggie is just full of crap. Clearly the creative teams working on Nintendo's games have the leeway to make whatever statements they want.

Xenoblade is loaded with religious stuff. Somebody ask Reggie about that.

I think he means more that Nintendo isn't going to insert itself into current-event political issues and that's honestly a good stance to take since the only winning strategy for a company in that game is to not play.

Nintendo as a company doesn't make political statements. Except for that time they supported the Stop Online Piracy Act, then subsequently withdrew said support. It doesn't get any more political than making a yea or nay judgement on actual political policy.

Reggie doesn't make political statements because he's just a PR guy. "Nintendo" as a company generally isn't going to make literal political statements. But their games touch on political matters from time to time because Takahashi etc are not "Nintendo" nor are they responsible for PR.

The video doesn't even show what question Reggie was asked to prompt this response, robbing it of any context.

I'm lost. Which company is talking about politics?

Personally, I use video games as an escape. It soothes me to an extent where I don't take into account the outside world, and I'm happier for it. People wonder why I play video games so frequently, and it's mostly because of Nintendo and willingness to be the same.

Nintendo never strayed away from their bread and butter. They don't let people guide their game direction. They've always put in hard work to make their image, which is very respectable. It seems like today's day and age where everyone wants to be heard, and everyone feels the need to say something, no matter how utterly stupid it is, whether it's right or left, it just seems unavoidable. And yet after 15 years of playing their games, Nintendo hasn't been influenced by outsiders, giving me something familiar to latch onto.

Making people happy? Who kidnapped the true, 3DS and Wii U era, sadistic master Reggie and replaced him with a still ugly, but cute puppy?

Stwike him, Centuwion. Stwike him vewy wuffly! (Pontius Pilate, "Life of Brian")

Good Reggie stay out of politics.
