I can´t wait for Microsoft to start blocking Google Chrome.

Not sure how Google Chrome on Windows is comparable to crossplay between consoles. But regardless of what benefits the consumer the most, there's a monetary benefit for Sony in not allowing it, while for Microsoft there is a monetary benefit for allowing it. I can assure you that in both cases, this is the reason behind the companies respective decisions. Not their opinion on what is right and best for gamers.

And funnily enough, Microsoft has in the past done illegal things to get users to use their own browser instead of competing software.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_v._Microsoft_Corp.

Let´s not go that far back in the legal quagmire that software is.

And if you look a little into that case you would see that it has changed/scared Microsoft a lot. Particular in Europe, where they ask you if you want to keep MS Explorer before you even install Windows. Imagine doing that on your Android or iOS.

Keeping on topic, I don´t know how it could be good for Sony to have MP games with no population. It is so wierd that Sony it self alow crossplay with PC in many console exclusives, but blocks it with Xbox platform.

That is a dick move, doesn´t matter how well Playstation is doing.

Cross play could save same MP games that strugle with low population.

A game like Minecraft, where tiny timing differences don't significantly impact gameplay, can do this cross-platform stuff.  I don't know that it would work on a shooter, for instance, where one platform's slightly faster performance could give players on that system a big advantage.

How much does Minecraft sell on the PS4? Maybe MS should consider yanking it from that platform entirely.

XBox One, XBox One X, PC, Android, iOS, and Switch is a plenty.

How would it make sense to pull the game from a platform that they've already spent time and money porting it to?

From a business standpoint, it doesn't make sense for the dominating player to allow cross-play. One of the factors influencing which console you choose is which console your friends have, because people want to play together with their friends. It is more likely that your friends have PS4s than XBOs, so Sony are more likely to benefit from this, and thus, have something to lose, while MS have something to gain from it.

I was just about to write this comment, almost word for word.  Instead, I'll just second this.

This is a huge step up!
How about the PS4 and Vita?

Those are some great news.

Cross platform play needs to come to more devices and games that make sense to be honest. Wish Sony would get on board with it.

Halo 1-4 on Switch. Do it Microsofts.

A port of "Halo Online" would even do the trick. Not like it's competing directly with Halo 5, etc.

I know it's a pipe dream, but Halo DS was tossed around for a minute.
