I've had three 3DS systems since launch and owned every version of the system. I have spent hundreds of hours playing numerous 3DS games that remained my lifeline to Nintendo content during an era where I was similarly disenchanted with the Wii U. If not for the 3DS, my relationship with Nintendo would have taken a six year hiatus. I am grateful for the opportunities it has provided me.

That said, since day one, I have fucking hated this sorry excuse for hardware. It is a hideous and insulting follow-up to its innovative predecessor. Since the day I brought my launch 3DS home with Ocarina of Time 3D, I knew I was in for a terrible tenure of compromise and disappointment.

The 3DS is the worst piece of hardware I have ever had the immense displeasure of using. Even as refinements have improved the material problems with the system, the technology itself has remained pitiful and disgusting. As time goes on, I am confident that absolutely no catalog of games will age as poorly as the Nintendo 3DS. This is easy to assume because, even today, the system can't touch even the least aspirational PSP games in visual fidelity or sound quality.

I cannot wait for this foul system to die. I cannot wait to leave it behind. I hate it with my life. The six years I've spent with it have felt like internment. It has been a grueling necessity so that I could enjoy games that are done an immense disservice by the machine that envelopes them.

Kill the 3DS. This system sucks. It was terrible at launch. It is even more terrible today. I have seen pedometers with more compelling technology than this sorry system. It is a public high school production of Hamlet: cheap, amateur, and reductive to all the material.

So, you ask where all this 3DS hate came from. For me, it's always been there. The 3DS has always been ruining terrific games and forcing me to lower my expectations of what portable gaming could be. I feel no different today than I did in 2012.

The only difference is now there is the Switch. If God was merciful, this transition would be swift and aggressive. But God is dead. There is no God. The transition will be slow. It will take years. By the time the transition is complete, and the 3DS is dead, I will be dead too.

Just me, the 3DS, and God.

And, to me it is quite interesting how someone could so much dislike a piece of hardware, but still buy a console multiple times, because the exclusive games were just so exceedingly compelling to play.

Technically, enjoying a game, while simultaneously hating the hardware being used to enjoy it.

I myself had the DS/PSP/3DS/Vita.

After the first few years of DS, I got so burnt out on looking up, and down, and up, and down on dual screens and taking my hand off buttons to use a touch screen on the DS.

Relatively, It was disruptive compared to how much I enjoyed playing on the GBA SP with a more cohesive single screen single experience, with my hands comfortably in a single position rather than tapping around a screen.

I ended up jumping ship to the PSP for the most part, and bought physical Vita games for a few years before giving up since Sony starved that platform to a cruel state of anemic subsistence.

And even then, with my firm self aware preference of platform and type of game experience, even I bought dozens of DS and 3DS games because they were simply that good.

And, I would feel myself wishing that these games were on PSP or Vita because of the form of the hardware itself.

Obviously, Nintendo Switch is such a relief, haha!  :P

Anyone else have experience with this?

The 3DS is my favorite handheld. In particular, the New 3DS (not the XL), as it is sleek, stylish, and is comfortable to play. I've always noticed that a lot of people seem to play with the 3D turned off, but I usually keep it on.

There are certain games where the 3D effects the framerate too much, such as Hyrule Warriors and Monster Hunter, so I have to keep it off.

I will truly miss 3D gaming if Nintendo forgoes it in their next iteration. It's sad that so many people don't bother with it. Does it cause eye strain or produce headaches with some people? I suffer from pretty regular migraines, but haven't had issues with the 3D.

I enjoyed the games, and the system as well. I haver zero understanding of how can people "hate" the 3ds. Right from the get-go it was a comfortable console for me. Tho, I dont really think I've ever "hated" any console, so this whole conversation is kinda weird for me tbh.

The hardware never really bothered me.
True, it's hardware wasn't up to snuff, but their games certainly weren't.
Now that I think about it, the 3DS may be my favorite system. So many amazing games I got to play on the go.
With that said, I do think that this year should be the last year and that it's time to start making the Switch.

Yes, I enjoy the 3DS, though I do prefer home consoles to handhelds. One big plus for it is that it has backwards compatibility with the DS library, giving it a huge selection of great games.

That gave me a chuckle. I will say that my favorite Nintendo handheld was the GBA for kicking ass at 2D rather than sucking ass at 3D.

I like my 3DS because of its games library, which is incredibly amazing. Also, it has a lot of good looking games, just look at Kid Icarus Uprising. I can't believe the person who wrote that post is saying that no 3DS game is as good looking as a PSP game. That's just nuts, Kid Icarus Uprising alone shits on every PSP game ever in terms of visuals.
Personally, I don't see what's so bad about the 3DS hardware. It could have been better but it never affected my enjoyment of the games.

People are INCREDIBLY salty about the Pokemon US/UM thing.

I disliked the 3DS immensely. Not just that most RPGs on handhelds are pretty much trash these days (my expectations may be a tad too high). I did not like the design, I never liked the dual screen aspect, though I did enjoy _some_ games on the DS, I did not like the 3D (and yes I know you could turn it off, but ultimately that increased the price of the thing).

A warrior keeps death on the mind from the moment of their first breath to the moment of their last.

I wouldn't mind having the New 3DS as my main gaming platform for a couple more years, love the system to bits and it seems like Nintendo won't be replacing it anytime soon. It helps that its games library is awesome too.

People are idiots. You can make a good looking clean low poly model with beautiful textures on the 3DS. You just have to pick a good art direction, and not try to make something hyper realistic. 3DS' resolution is very low, but the screen is so small that you shouldn't be able to tell. Any game system that performs at PS2 levels is fine.
