Maybe they want to get the 3DS sales first, and then get people to double dip with a Switch version? |
If that was the case, then it wouldn't launch in 2017 and they could port it as a Deluxe version in 2018.. but I think we will have a new game for 2018

I guess we'll see!!
IF it was a mistake for now and one easily made, it then shows a high possibility that there is a tendency or encoded method of sorts for many 3DS games to also have a Switch version in the future. I anticipate with the 2DS being released that they will gradually phase out the 3DS line over the next 2 years with most games available on both platforms. This will give Nintendo feedback on Switch adoption potential, a running consumer interest in both consoles, and allow time for them to both get Switch production straightened out as well as plan and test any revisions. They are being cautious not to damage their money machine handheld market.
Don't expect a flood of Switch developed 3DS franchises. Expect to see all 3DS primary games on Switch to be built primarily on 3DS, though with a resolution hike similar to the neo geo games or if the developer has time like Monster Hunter XX. Expect there to be increasingly fewer games on 3DS solely starting next year. Our dreams of a true merger will likely not happen for a while but dreams of a ton of 3DS games on Switch is right around the corner. It is also possible, though not likely, that Switch does not show signs of replacing the handheld market entirely. We do not know where the bottom drops out due to supply issues. This is where the Switch mini comes into play. Do not expect a Switch mini to happen till the end of this period; tech will be better by then making it more feasible.
In case it comes, I can see some people mad doing rants about how it is a waste of resources because the Switch didn't need it.
