Forums - Nintendo - New Advance Wars, maybe someday.

Now that Fire Emblem has finally caught on, I doubt you'll see Advance Wars in its current iteration any time soon as there's the fear that it could cannibalize sales from Fire Emblem. People will say that's unfounded and both series are distinct but we've already seen an example of that kind of fear with Intelligent Systems radically changing Paper Mario so it doesn't overlap with Mario & Luigi. I say, re-purpose the Valkyria Chronicles/Codename STEAM gameplay either for Advance Wars or Fire Emblem. Give one of them that style of play and give the other the classic 2D-style presentation that we're used to from both series.

I've never played an Advanced Wars game, but I know some of my friends really enjoyed them, so if another one released, I'd give that a shot.

Considering they managed to turn Fire Emblem from a niche series at the brink of death into one of Nintendo's biggest IPs, doing the same for Advance Wars, when it's so similar to FE, couldn't be that hard.

Hmm, but Advance Wars does not have the same character quality, each of your units are almost expendable.
I hope they can bring it to the same levels of popularity as Fire Emblem, but without the ability to rely on waifus, husbandos and relationships...

It may pose a challenge.

The COs are your friend here. Though I suppose a system closer to Langrisser would really make relationships shine, just needs a bit of refinement.

I WON A BET AGAINST AZUREN! WOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

:3

I've only played the original GBA one (was that the original? Well I played the first GBA one), and wasn't a huge fan. I wasn't crazy about the expendable units, and the known characters didn't exactly stand out (though I realize that's not the point of the game). Variety is always nice though, so if IS can support this franchise and Fire Emblem together, I don't mind.

What? It's not even close to be one of their biggest games. Not even close. Newer FE usually sell 2m or so, that's quite good, but very far from the usual 10-20m from Nintendos's biggest IPs.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

I enjoyed Dual Strike the most probably but loved the other ones. I don't give a damn that the troops are expendable because the COs are the only ones that matter.  Sure I would try to keep troop loss to a min but who gives a shit about troop attachment when you play most RTS and TBS games.   I wouldn't mind another Battalion Wars also.

I'm not as optimistic with this franchise..

Really fun but probably will be difficult to revive this series

[3DS] Winter Playtimes [Wii U]

Yes please, I LOVE this franchise. I would like them to go for a dark tone like in "Days of ruin" fantastic game.

Would love for another Advanced Wars. As well as another Golden Sun.

After not getting one on 3DS yet or Wii U (which could have put the Gamepad to great use), yes I am very much looking forward to it. No Advance Wars since Days of Ruin on DS (9 years ago) is a long time. It's a shame too, Days of Ruin saw a nice uptick in sales from Dual Strike (back to GBA Advance Wars sales levels). So, I can't see why the franchise hasn't continued. Since Fire Emblem: Awakening on 3DS saved FE series from being cancelled and lead to an explosion in the series profile and popularity, Advance Wars should have gotten the same chance by now.

Holy shit it's been nine years?! Didn't realise it released that long ago lol, but I'd love to see a new one on Switch, I'd even settle for 3DS... but preferably Switch, lol.

I know, right?  I googled the release date to remind myself of how long it's been.  I wasn't married yet and still lived in my condo back then...
