I think the amount of money they give you for games is pretty reasonable. My local pawn shops will only give out a $10 max for a Wii, PS360 game, no matter when it came out. Though, ebay is the best option to sell your games.

I like buying my used games from Gamestop because you have a seven-day try it before your stuck with it policy on used games.
I also buy from friends who have independent game stores.
Could be why I average about one Wii game a week.

I'll raise you this:
I bought Warioware for $75 (AUD) new, and sold it for $80... four months after i bought it
ebay truly is wonderful :P
as everybody said, gamestop needs to make a profit. They buy their games for $48 and sell for $60, and for used games, depends on which game, how old, etc, you get something. But hey business is business

Gamestop and retailers would buy games a lot cheaper at wholesale discount rates. they buy games in bulk.
I love Gamestop (Ebgames here) I like the price I pay for used Gamecube games. Got Resident Evil, 0, Code: Veronica X, Metal Gear Solid: The twin Snakes and a few more for 20$ each.
I like my Gamestop in the games they have available. Other stores like Walmart doesn't has all the games I might be looking for and I don't really bother with trading my used games because I like my games. the workers in my gamestop are also kind to everyone and they know pretty much any gaming question you ask them.
Pfffth. I love GameStop. I don't want to bother with eBay.
Try to take advantage of their promotions.
I traded in 5 Wii games, 5 DS games, a GHIII controller, and a Wii remote and walked away with a brand new PS3 for $170. Some of the Wii and DS games would have NEVER sold on eBay (at least, not for more than GameStop gave me for them).
And your friend is lucky they would even give him a penny for an original Xbox. I wouldn't take a FREE used Xbox from someone.
My End of 2008 Hardware Predictions (console only):
Wii : 50 million
360: 28 million
PS3: 24 million
These predictions were made on January 3rd and won't be revised
Wow I didn't know I was a jerk >_> anyway it's all business, it's the same thing any store does with used games, many used copies of whatever game you find on Ebay is a guy with his own game store found it and bought it for half the price he's selling it for. Every middle man does it if you don't like the price you get there, do more work yourself and sell it on Ebay or to a friend, if you want convenience go to a store like GameStop, if you want the most money sell it yourself.
