Forums - Gaming - Oh, SNAP!!!

On the good side, The World Ends With You is looking to be a really great game, I will buy it as soon as I can.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Edge are a bunch of tossers!

After the list Fazz posted, I'm gonna stop reading Edge reviews alltogether, that's just childish imo.

I just hate the fact that an obviously flawed source like Edge can have a crumb of credibility. I'll wait for IGN and 1up, thank you.

Well these same people gave mario kart ds a 5 so that is an improvement.

Wow, are you serious, lol?

Either way, I don't know that I'm all too excited about Mario Kart Wii, to be honest. I haven't played a Mario Kart that I really loved since the N64 days.

Of course, I'll still be buying it, and I'm sure that it's still a Mario Kart game, afterall. Edge reviews don't have that big of an effect on me, in the end, I'm more interested in what Gamespot, or even Xplay has to say, because at least they tend to judge games based on realistic expectations.

...and no, edge magazine scores aren't worth not playing Fire Emblem for any amount of time.

Oh I was mistaken. It was double dash that got a 5.

I just got off of the phone with Nintendo founder, umm Bob. Bob Nintendo. He assures me that not only does Mario Kart Wii live up to expectations, it goes up to expectation's door, asks it out on a date, and then has sex with it. Expectations even pays for Mario Kart Wii's dinner.

There you have it. No need to worry, folks. Mario Kart delivers again!

Best post i've seen in a while :D

 Bob nintendo ... genious !!

My mind has changed. My strength has not.    Kamahl, Fist of Krosa

Don't flame me, I'm already on fire.

I think that Mario Kart Wii may be a very fun title, maybe the most fun Wii game at the moment, but I also think the game technically is a mess. From what I heard the game absolutely sucks in all regards except for the most important one: fun factor.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm gonna buy it day one and I'm going to enjoy the game damnit. But the truth is, Nintendo really got lazy here.

The graphics are significantly worse than Double Dash's (which boggles my mind), online is severly crippled (no grand prix, no free for all battle mode), the trick system doesn't seem to work at all on a regular controller, there is severe slow down in split screen multiplayer (wasn't there on the much better looking Double Dash... WTF?) and the tracks aren't as imaginetive as they could have been.

You must be a pretty blind fanboy to disregard all these aspects, IMO.

Who cares? It's just a single man's opinion. Edge is known for trying to grab some media attention with their review scores. If you don't like them, just ignore them. That's what I've done ever since I read their Metroid Prime 3 review...

Drugs are bad.

online is severly crippled (no grand prix, no free for all battle mode)

Completely ignoring that it's 12-player online, even has an online battlemode for the first time ever, the new game types in battle mode, ability to check world wide record status, local record status, ranking, downloadable ghost data, and worldwide online events like Time Trials

the trick system doesn't seem to work at all on a regular controller

The trick system was designed for motion controls (just as shake smashes were in Brawl), and were built to show off the Wiimote control scheme.  If you don't want to do the tricks, just stick to the carts which don't use them anyway (only the bikes do) and you will be playing classic Mario Kart.  The tricks and bikes were added for people willing to try something new (i.e. motion controls).

there is severe slow down in split screen multiplayer (wasn't there on the much better looking Double Dash... WTF?)

Source? Only time slowdown was mentioned was in the IGN preview over a month ago in which they admitted they didn't have the final build.  The only review readable online is considered harsh by most people (was an 8 out of 10) and they didn't mention it...

How imaginative the tracks in is your opinion, which you're welcome to.  Not sure what the heck the basis for the rest of your post was though.

@ Naznatips:

1) Those screenshots are not a good comparison. Double Dash obviously looks a lot sharper than that image, in fact, Double Dash runs on the same resolution as MKWii, so it shouldn't look that much different in that regard.

MK Wii looks worse though. The character models look terrible in my opinion. Have you seen Donkey Kong on a bike? MAN, I think I threw up in my mouth a little... Also, do overuse of bloom is really distracting, everything in the distance looks really blurry, it's almost as bad as an N64 game.

2) Yes, online is appreciated. Sorry for not making that clear, I do love the fact that it's online with 12 players. But you can't deny it could be so much more, it feels (from the looks of it) online mode is more of an after thought than their main focus. That disappoints me.

3) Well, if I'm going to play online, I want to win. Doing tricks makes you faster, so it's pretty important I'm able to do tricks, right? I think it's a terrible decision to restrict it to motion controls only.

4) You're right, my source is IGN. It may be fixed, but the preview was not that long ago, and the game is released this week... I'm afraid it isn't fixed, but who knows.

I'm really not trying to bash this game, but it just looks to me Nintendo didn't invest enough time and resources into this game. It looks unpolished compared to their usual stuff (Brawl, for example).
