are you kidding me you really had to think what was coming out for the PS3 hell the games getting ready to come out are the reason I bought the system.?. The rest of the year has me excited on PS3 with the many new IP's coming out by years end. Heavenly Sword, Lair, Warhawk(i know its a sequal but nothing like the original),and Uncharted. I don't think the coming titles from the 360 other than Halo are quite as anticipated. Wii has a good lineup coming too

Anyway back to the fact that this Update is awesome. I just have one question is there any other High Def player Blu-Ray or HD-DVD player that upscales regular DVD's. Lastly the 360 upscales to 1080p? haow can it do that and diplay it in 1080p I was under the impression 1080p could only be delivered through the HDMI.

Panasonic has a dvd player with HDMI out that says right on the marketing ish on the box/system that it will upscale DVD's to 1080p. Cost for the dvd player is $89. This is the primary reason I will not buy either a HDDVD player or bluray, as they are way over priced for thier benefits over upscaled DVD players.

Yes, the Amazon sales chart is not much use. E.g. right now the Wii is top, PS3 is 10, Xbox 12 or something. Three colours of DS in the top 10 and the rest of the top 10 various Wii/DS games. But that basically means they had stock of Wii's recently. Solid numbers for UK and Europe would be wondrous.

Nope, Component vid cables can do it. With HDMI you get the benefit of one cable vs. 5. Plus, HDMI can send more data overall so other future techs can use it as well, where component will be phased out. Query google if you need more sources on this, google, wikipedia, all show the same thing.

I sevearly disagree that Wii fans are not as Rampant here. Although what can you expect from a mod that says "your kind" when refering to a PS3 fan.   

I wouldn't say that there is bad news for Sony in sales in Europe Japan and America i would say PS3 sales are not great but games will sell systems and games are coming. Demand for the PS3 is there Price is what is keeping people away. Sony will fix the price .....it would be much harder if demand wasn't there and price was low.

Anyway back on topic Upscaling is great and I am looking forward to it . the fact remains that for the $ you can not beat what the PS3 can do. HD might not mean alot to most now but give it a few years and it will. I can remeber a time not so long ago I heard a little girl on this Super Bowl ad talking about a information Super Highway and thought "What the hell is this girl talking about." within 5 years everyone was getting online. Just saying don't we want technology to advance even if maybe we were not quite ready for it as a whole? PS3 will be fine most people do want one price is the biggest problem.

Wow ,just wow ,somehow ,the resident trolls have managed (tried more like ) to turn a uber-positive thing about the PS3 into something so-so if not downright bad .... Having someone as moderator that speaks about PS3 owners as "your kind " is really ugly I must admit .Maybe ioi should recover his Wii Gamer nick and the site be renamed WiiGCchartz after all .Come on people ,you love Mario and everything ,but cant you look at soft and hardware numbers without experiencing primal joy to see Sony trailing behind and feeling the urge to slap everyone in the face with phrases as "the war is already over ! " and "sony already lost !" ? Cant you enter a Sony news without the neccesity to downplay it if it is a good new and exaggerate it if its a bad news ?

 As for sales numbers we can play the hiding game ,as there arent officials numbers for Europe we play the ostrich and just "pretend " the X360 is keeping pace there as nobody can prove us wrong ....but the few data that has arrived (thats UK numbers and Germany numbers last week ,not to mention Spain software numbers that show the dismal state of the X3660 here and the PS3 already beating it in total software sales )suggest otherwise  .I would say ,being nice and all ,that the overall numbers for both consoles are more or less even worlwide .Even so ,this is only a question of time ...once the PS3 starts selling in Japan when the games start to arrive the difference in numbers will decrease faster and faster .Only 25K per week in Japan would mean a massive 90K of difference per month ,and the PSP is making easily 35K units per week ...the PS3 with DMC4,RE5,FFXIII ,FFXIII VS ,White Knight Story,MGS4,Heavenly Sword,Eye of Judgement,Gran Turismo 5,Lair,Ninja Gaiden Sigma,Katamari Damacy,Tekken,Folk Souls,Hot Shot Golf 5,Ratchet & Clank etc etc will see very strong software and hardware sales and then we could start making comparisions.Doing it right now that the PS3 hasnt had any game in japan since end march is wishful thinking more than anything.Things wont be like this for much more time.

Diomedes if you can't see a difference between the kind of troll Larry is and the actual positively contributing PS3 members on this site then I guess mrstickball isn't too far off.  You whine and whine and yet I've warned and banned more Wii fans than PS3 fans yet somehow you still complain about nothing being done.  If you're not happy, then quite frankly, there are plenty of other forums you can frequent.

 If you have a problem with a post, then report it, don't come into threads and bitch about it. So far everyone has either said it's great or nitpicked at the limitations or countered larry's outrageous claims that the PS3 was going to suddenly sell millions of units based on this one update.

Anyone else tired of people down playing good news here. at the end of the day Ps3 sales wont up till more games come out. its not in the same situation as the wii due to the big price difference. the Wii could go till next march without 1 great game and still sell easy cause people who plan on only getting 2 systems will most likly choose the wii due to its differance in style. Im in the home beta and am verifide for the warhawk beta and im exreamly happy with the ps3 to this point. but i play all genres of games so i can find many game to my enjoyment. the line of decent games starts in july with sigma and sales will only rise. with all the things people say to down play the ps3 getting washed away with each update. people argued about the 360 having scaling and ps3 not having it and now ps3 will get it. so the only thing left to bash the ps3 with is the quantity of games. I just wish people cant stop nit picking about each console. the Wii still dosent have online play right now and it isn't thrown in Wii owners face every time there is good news. We all know that online will be coming so theres no point in bashing that feature everyday. So bare with the Ps3 about the games cause the games haven't really hit the Wii hard either. and this is mainly due to them both lunching under a year ago. Please let the good new live for atleast a day.

Here is my take on the news:

1/ DVD upscaling is irrelevant. Lots of devices already do it, for cheaper. And because its 1080p / HDMI only, it only makes a difference for a small % of people that already own PS3's & fancy TV's.

2/ PS1/PS2 upscaling is great. Didn't the PS3 already upscale these games though? Or is it just 1080p upscaling added? Does this work on both Emotion Chipped / non-Emotion Chipped PS3's?

- Emotion Chipped (hardware emulation): guessing the PS3 can only upscale the entire frame buffer (i.e. smooth it out).

- Non-emotion Chipped (software emul - do the hardware ones now use this?): Textures will look smoother, and jaggies should be less obvious. Nothing you can do about low-resolution textures though. Its still a very nice feature.

3/ PC Streaming: A guess that's cool - not really sure what it is used for though. Can a PS3 connect to a PC via network (i.e. LAN)? If not, then it could be useful for watching/listening to media on your PC (assuming you can't do this already).

4/ Printing: whatever - is there a point to this? I should just as easily copy media to a memory card, insert that into a printer (all new ones support this), and print directly. I think that's less headache than plugging a printer straight in? Might be useful if you want to do lots of printing. Even more useful, would be wireless printing (LAN), there are some other wireless formats available as well I think.

5/ Remote Play: Sort of cool... in theory anyway. I personally would copy the media I want to a memory card/stick, and take it with me (for my PSP). Need to be in a unlocked, WiFi spot (?) with your PSP, and have a lot of bandwidth available to do something useful (unless you can copy media to your Memstick - then watch/listen to it?). Its a cute feature, be interested to see/hear how practical this is.

Personally, I think Sony should be focused on 'broadening" the appeal of the PS3, rather than giving those who have a PS3 more features. None of this makes me anymore interested in a PS3, and makes me more worried that it is moving away from a "games machine" and more towards a "PC styled device". Apart from playing PS1/PS2 games (upscaled), I can do everything here on my PC (if I wanted to).
