Ok.  So I have to decide if I really need to play PC games for the next three years or so.

That Asus would be sick if I decided I didn't need games...........

Laptop's aren't that good for games, you'd have to fork out a fair bit if you want a "Gaming laptop"

If you're still around, check on the dell website, they have some pretty huge savings if you buy online, a friend of mine just bought it and for 1700 he got something pretty cool, in any case, try to get more ram

Listen to the voice of reason, then do as I say.

Costs around $AU1800 if I buy it TOMORROW!!!

2gb Ram

2.2 Core Duo

256MB 2600Pro

250gb HDD

What do people think? My main query is about the graphics card. How capable is it?

You should check out a site like notebookreviews.com before you make a large purchase like that.

I'll check the card tomorrow. Am I too understand that if it is a 2600Pro (especially a 2600Pro Mobility) then it is a decent card?

But that I still shouldn't purchase the system because it is running Vista on only 2gb Ram?

OK, the real answer is that all laptop cards are poor except the ones which drain your battery life in 10 seconds. The 2600 is a good compromise between battery life, cost and performance.

And Vista can run OK in 2GB of RAM. It's just if you plan to use 3D design apps or Photoshop or something.

I've changed my opinion: get the laptop in the first post. If you want to seriously game, get a desktop.

Ubuntu. Linux for human beings.

If you are interested in trying Ubuntu or Linux in general, PM me and I will answer your questions and help you install it if you wish.

Hey starcraft, why don't you say

1. Where you'll be using it. (I.e how much mobility you need. Battery life etc)
2. What size you want, 14-17" monitors
3. We know the performance but wouldn't hurt to restate it.
I found an XPS on Dells site, it has a 2.5ghz proc 1440/900 screen 3 gb ram 8600m graphics card 250gb hdd 2 year warranty - Laptop failure rates get as high as RROD ^^ $1850 there are some nice deals also if you want 17" desktop replacement size.

Tease.

Ok everyone, I'm going to check out Dell and check out that notebookreviews.com site.

That is the new laptop I'm looking at. Can everyone check it out and tell me if there are any upgrades I must make?
I'm no longer concerned with games, but I'd like it to last a few years with multimedia and office application capabilities.
