Forums - PC - Is this a good laptop?

ARRRGGHHHH!!!!! SO MANY NUMBERS!!! SO CONFUSING!!!

Ok, the computer is Vista, so I think it is safe to conclude I should let this one go by until I find something with an extra gig of RAM, ensure it is Core 2 Duo and possibly get a better graphics card.

Thankyou for your comments everyone, it seems you saved me from a stupid purchase.

You get a better deal in the United States for $1800 I bet.

The main question is:

What do you intend to do with it?

Play games? like what sort, what graphical capability?

Surf the web?

Media ?

Media, office applications, web surfing.

It would be nice to be able to play some of the latest games (not at high settings or anything), but I don't want to blow the bank account on gaming features.

I realize that about the shaders, but most laptop GPU's with decent clock speed will have good shaders as well, and the clock speed is easier to look for on spec lists, many PC's don't have too many details on the GPU (or other parts for that matter).

Costs around $AU1800 if I buy it TOMORROW!!!

2gb Ram

2.2 Core Duo

256MB 2600Pro

250gb HDD

What do people think? My main query is about the graphics card. How capable is it?

Don't run screaming for it: it's neither terribly bad nor terribly good for that price.

$AU1800 ~= €1050

Currently in Italy, with this month's offers, for €999 including 20%VAT you could get a notebook from HP with better CPU, a 2,5 GHz Core 2 Duo, double that RAM, 4GB, same size HDD, but to balance, worse GPU, a  NVidia GeFo 8400GS (with 256MB dedicated memory like that Radeon). You didn't mention the screen, I guess it's the now usual 15,4" wide screen.

For web surfing, Office and Media it should be fine man, no worries there.

But, where i work sells these for around the same price, this is much, much, much better.

It's in Australia too so you could get one shipped.

How good is the 9300 though?

Is there anything else I should be aware of with that laptop?

Why is it so cheap?
