Forums - Sales - USA in recession - will gaming be affected?

In the face of this recession, I'm making more money than ever! Still, video games have proven themselves immune to the financial woes of the rest of the world. I predict record profits for the games industry in 2008.

In the trunk of my police car, right now is an XBOX 360. I had to evict a guy from a residence yesterday who has nothing but a 13 SD TV, some clothes, and the 360. A FRIGGIN' 360! There was a dispute between him and his girlfriend about who the console belonged to. Gamers will sacrifice food, shelter, and common sense, for their games. Believe it.

Thats insane! How is he supposed to play GTA IV?

edit: @NJ5, heading away from the PC for now, just don't want to leave you waiting for a reply =P

""at the same time people tend to spend more money on inexpensive entertainment (like videogames) and cut back on larger entertainment spending.""

==> video games are inexpensive entertainement ?

u mean compared to a car ? a house ?

so u expect video games sales to stay high ?

Most professional sporting events last 2 to 3 hours and charge $30 to $300 for a ticket, and refreshments will end up costing between $20 and $50 per person; and movies are $20 per person (all things considered) for about 2 hours of entertainment. In general it is quite difficult to find anything to do outside of the home that does not cost more than $10 per hour per person (and many will be in excess of $50 per hour per person). For the ammount of entertainment  you get videogames are fairly inexpensive; and they're really inexpensive if you stick to the greatest hits titles, used titles and rent games (becomming less expensive than cable TV).

Now this is dedication to gaming..............I'm not sure if it's healthy, but health.........who cares?

I don't think there will be a recession, but if there is, price becomes an even bigger issue here, and I hate to say it, but that means a smaller drop in Wii sales than for any other console, lol.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.
