to both of you, quarterly fiscal results for Nintendo are always shipped, this is not debatable.

And yes i know it has supply constraints but you will never get 100% sell through. 2.4-2.5 million would be right around 90% sell through which is extremely high.

So if its not sold, then why do people think its so weird that Nintendo SHIPPED more Zelda games than Switch systems then? I mean thats pretty normal to ship more games than systems.

how the hell am i supposed to know what other people think?

well I know what to tell you, you're wrong.

He's not wrong, Nintendo said sold, not shipped. And even if it was shipped it wouldn't make a different since it sells out really fast.

http://nintendoeverything.com/switch-ships-2-74-million-units-worldwide-software-at-5-46-million-zelda-at-3-84-million/

Btw, I just noticed in Europe last week Switch was up from the previous one, and this week it's also up from the last one. So yeah... it's supply constrained indeed, otherwise sales would just go down and down.

did you not realize the article you posted says shipped?

p

@ Zorg...

* It's FY16/17  OR FY ending in 2017 ( March ), that's why Nintendo shows it as FY17 .

I forgot to add these charts in our discussion...

Look how similar are the sales between EU and USA in FY16/17 and the boost from Pokemon Go was almost equal  in hard numbers ( but not precentage-wise  , only because 3DS sales in the second half of 2015 in the USA were lower than EU'S. )

Hence, this is another evidence that 3DS became scarce in EU like it did in the USA thanks to Pokemon.

Well you seem to know what Nintendo thinks, so I figured you knew what I meant.

There are several articles about how Zelda sold 2.76M and the Switch sold 2.74M. Like this one:

https://techcrunch.com/2017/04/27/nintendo-has-sold-2-74m-switches-expects-to-sell-around-10m-next-year/

"That’s right; Zelda for Switch sold more units than the Switch itself. That likely means there have been at least a few anticipatory purchases, from users who likely plan to get the console but couldn’t yet, as supply constraints continue to persist."

The source of the sales data matters. Hardware sales reported by Nintendo from their own records (for financial reports to investors and PR out of the blue and stuff) is shipments. Even if they use the word "sold." PR accompanying NPD results use sold-through numbers provided by NPD.

906k hardware sales in March were from NPD (US only). 925k Zelda sales in March were a combination of NPD's sold-through number and Nintendo's digital sales. Nintendo didn't reveal their internal figures until their annual report a couple weeks later. The number they gave at that time was 2.76 million. Those are global shipments (including digital sales).

How would Nintendo know sell-through numbers? Do you think retail chains share that info with Nintendo? If they did, why would Nintendo pay for NPD numbers? All Nintendo knows is what it sells to retail stores: shipments.

"Nintendo’s new home console-type video game system, Nintendo Switch, launched worldwide on March 3 and is off to a promising start. In particular, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has won immense popularity with recorded sales of 2.76 million units and 1-2-Switch has been generating buzz. Both of these games were released at the same time as the hardware. The sales volume for hardware and software during this period reached 2.74 million units and 5.46 million units respectively."

Sounds like sold to me...

You had a conversation with zorg on TLOZ BOTW SWITCH DATABASE... So I think you care for these interesting details about sales!

( this is image is extracted from a pdf, converted to html5 url to upload it on vgc and can appear only in a comment on a thread )

What I conclude is that you deserve congratulations for the tracking, possible errors are extremely small ( 2.05m for switch version and 850k for the wii u is 2.9m the 3m figure by Nintendo includes digital sales ) , also to Trunksfor the hardware sales tracking, since he will have switch at 2.5m by the end of March, 90% attach rate on 2.5m is 2.1m... ;)

Can you please just copy and paste the part where it says that instead of trying to insult me with something I dont really care about, that would be nice.
