Forums - General - Star at the Bar: New Job! I'm fairly sure!

So I'm at the bar with my client once again... it's karaoke night. So as you can imagine, it's uncomfortable, crowded, and full of people who make bad American Idol auditions look friggin' perfect. So begins this very long night.

As I said before a few SatB's back, this series will end in late May. Because my client is leaving my company. But... so will I, potentially.

Today I got a call from a company I once tried applying for. They loved me but, at the time, did not have the hours I needed -so I passed on them. Periodically they offer me shifts but theyre inconsistent so I always say no. Until today...

So they asked and offered me a shift that is basically identical to my current shift. This is pretty amazing considering I was in need of another client and I'm not exactly a big fan of my boss.

However, my dilemma is that I'm not sure if I am making more with this company or not. Here's a few details:

With my current job I make about $1,100 a month (it's not great I know, it's why I work 2 jobs x.x).

This job is offering a 4 day schedule:

2 days are: 11pm-9am

And the other 2 are: 11pm-9:30am

I make $11.70 an hour with this position... but there's a catch...

It's a sleeping shift, which for this company means part of the shift I only make $8.15 an hour. Here's how it is divided up:

for 2 days: 5hrs are $8.17 an hour while 5.5hrs are $11.70

for the other 2 days: 6hrs are $8.17 while 4hrs are $11.70

Of course Ohio taxes are also involved.

Would I be making more than my $1,100 with this job?

Should be obvious, I know, but I'm horrible at math and taxes make it much more confusing...

Wow, you make nothing considering what you do. At my dishwasher job for a restaurant I make 11.50, flexible hours.

Rough math is 290x 4 = 1160, so about the same.

Yeah, I know. It sucks XD then again, in Ohio to be well off all you needs to make is $60,000 a year. So pay here is typically less than most.

Doing the same job in Oregon fetched me about $12 an hour.

Considering what I do though, what I am paid is criminal.

Not sure how Iowa compares, but its pretty cheap here too. But I guess Iowa is kind of an outlier due to low population, but still a great place to be. What kind of qualifications did you need for that job? I assume background checks, and certification to take care of people in some way.

Considering it's about 4 am here, it's possible I'm asleep and I don't know what I'm doing. But assuming it's those four nights each week, I got at least roughly $1600* per month (excluding taxes, since I'm not familiar with how taxing works in the US).

*Assuming four weeks per month, for simplicity (should give a rough idea anyway).

The normal, keeping my sleep schedule messed up. I'm very much a night person, although I must admit, I'm probably not at my sharpest anymore.
