So a game can't be put into the same catagory as itself? That violates the rule of non-contradiction.

The last-gen and current-gen versions can't both be considered current-gen, as they have different hardware and architecture.

Dragonball Xenoverse 2 for Switch, and Dragonball Xenoverse 2 for PS4 must not both be current gen then, since Switch and PS4 have different hardware and architecture. But that's not true because Switch and PS4 are both consoles of the current generation.

Yes, they're current gen because they are the current consoles  by both. The PS3 and Wii U were the consoles they replaced, so those consoles are no longer current gen.

That's splitting hairs. There is no difference between the versions. Just changes in graphics that are beyond miniscule.

Emulation is not Piracy. That's ultimately the issue you need to get your head around.

They aren't emulating the game specifically, they are emulating the Platform... The game just happens to work on said platform.
The fact a game is on a dozen different platforms doesn't change that basic intrinsic fact.

Emulation is not always piracy. If you legally own the files then it isn't piracy. That's one of the first things I ever said in any emulation thread on this site.

But if you don't legally own the files for the game that you are emulating then it is piracy.

"By using this emulator you agree to provide your own files legally."

Sure thing. ;)

Then why are you saying that people should be banned for talking about Breath of the Wild and Persona 5, two games that many, many people acquired legally and released on dying platforms...

You know what, but this may shock you!! I have a PS3, PS4, Wii U and Switch, along with a copy of Breath of the Wild and Persona 5!! And I'm not even a PC gamer! I just acknowledge the benefits of emulation.

Well your argument was that two games running on systems with different architecture must not be of the same gen. I provided an example showing otherwise.

No, my argument was that the PS3 and PS4 versions of Persona 5 along with the Wii U and Switch versions of BotW can't be considered equivalent for emulation because they require different work and the like.

Because the majority of people emulating those games didn't acquire them legally.

And you have stats to back this up?

Or are you just making assumptions?

Because here's the thing ... you're on a forum that, to begin with, is incredibly niche. I honestly would not doubt if everyone in the emulation thread was getting their games 100% legally, because the forum is niche, emulation is even nicher, and the thread is more niche than both...

You're essentially banning talk about two games because you have a bias towards them. Not because of logic or reasoning.

But I'll address your previous argument, again. They are the same game. Whether or not one version can be emulated or not makes no difference, because there is virtually zero difference between the two versions graphics, and gameplaywise. The PS3/Wii U versions are just as enjoyable as the Switch/PS4 versions. The only real difference at all is portability in the Switch version of BotW.
