Lol there is so much more depth in pokemon then can fit on one of these posts it's unbelievable. What's even funnier is that Nintendo NEVER mentions most of these deeper gameplay factors (such as individual values, effort values, nature breeding, and so so much more) even in their guides. Pokemon is like a hard candy with a nuggetty center. On the surface is a relatively interesting and unique RPG, but as you dig deeper you find gameplay complexities and battle strategies that could throw the most savvy RPG player for a loop. It's sad that everyone assumes it's a kiddy game because of the cartoon and the fact that the actual game itself is pretty easy. But, if you ever get into competitive online battling, you will find nothing to challenge your strategy and intellect more then a good game of Pokemon! Unfortunately, because most of these deeper gameplay strategies remain hidden from the general gamer, reviewers aren't aware of them either. Nor do reviewers ever take the time to get into the metagame, to see that there is actually a very large community of mature and skilled Pokemon gamers. For more pokemon info see pokemon.marriland.com or serebii.net.

Naah, I don't agree. I mean, I agree that Pokemon games do have very deep strategy, but reviewers definitely know about them. If you look at overall reviews they are most definitely positive. I've read reviews for diamond/pearl and they say (just like in the other games) the reason the game is so good is because of it's satisfying gameplay and deep strategy, even if it is intended for kids(and it is intended for kids).

You got it a little mixed up.  You can't say it's not a kiddy game because it is.  It was made for kids, and that's why it IS easy and cartoony.

In reality it's a kids game, but the hidden content and depth is what makes it so good. It's a kids game with a real game hidden inside. But it's been around so long many people have realized this by now.  Look at all these guys explaining why they like the game so much, there not kids. I've seen tournament winners in pokemon, definitely not kids.  The millions and millions of copies sold, not just from kids.

And if that thing about the general gamer missing the deeper gameplay(those are the kids) was meant to be an indirect argument of why I don't like the game, you were wrong ;)

From the sales it looks like Yellow is the best selling pokemon game ever as it is listed on its own and sold 14 million. I've never understood why these games are often grouped together.

Because there almost the same game with very slight differences.  Yellow was just weird, having that thing follow you around like there was food coming out of your ass.

i think the different versions per release is to encourage people to trade, like a trading card thingamajig. Either that, or to make you buy the same game... twice ;)

I still haven't been able to find out wether Red/Blue was ever bundled with the Gameboy for any significant amount of time or not. Does anyone here know?

Bet with disolitude: Left4Dead will have a higher Metacritic rating than Project Origin, 3 months after the second game's release.  (hasn't been 3 months but it looks like I won :-p )
