Yokai watch 2 took the 1st place in its week of release, like its predecessor did last year.

In case you don't know it, yw frachise ( I don't mean only the video game ;) ) has been an big success in France...

The game has sold 700k ( including digital sales )  in Europe as of 2016, of which the 220k (no digital sales ) are from France. Yokai watch was the 15th best selling game in France for 2016, in a chart where multiplafrom games sales are combined...

In addition, France isn't the only european market were it has perfom extremely well

It has sold 100k (  digital sales  not included ) in Spain and was the 8th best selling game of 2016, again in a chart where multiplaform games sales are combined...

Given the size of the spanish market regarding core video games business compared to France, YW seems like a bigger success there.

Note: Yokai watch has high digital sales at least in France and Spain, due to the existence of 2DS bundle that contains a digital code! YW pushed many of theose 2DSes...

YW did fairly  well in Germany and Italy too...  

Without a surprise to be honest, the game is an ultra flop in the UK though ( its sales in 2016 were half of those in Spain, imagine ...), yw2 opened at 35th in software weekly sales charts in the UK...

Let's see if YW will repeat its vast success in Spain, as it currently does in France.

It's really big here in Italy aswell, mostly because of the Anime, imho it'll fad soon though...

Here in Belgium, it doesn't seem to be a big success, although I have seen some Yo-Kai Watch related things in toy stores.

Good for YW, is it popular throughout Europe? or just France and Spain?

Nice to see Zelda/Switch holding.

Spain and France seem to be the only Western countries that really like this.  Does all right in some other EU countries, but in those two it does noticeably better than anywhere else, other than obviously Japan.

I'm not sure if I'm buying the OP's hype here.  Last year, we kept getting the same "YW is #1-#5 on the French charts again!" stuff, yet the final numbers for 2016 had it out of the top 10 in that country, and having sold 200,000, which is fine, especially for a new franchise, but all the blaring threads/headlines made it seem like it was this phenomenon, rather than a game selling good, not great.  Despite its April 2016 release, a lot of games released in November beat it out in the 2016 yearly numbers in France.

Also, this is its debut week on the charts, and one of the games is below month-old Zelda.

A bit surprised it's doing fine, thought it would be a Japanese only craze, though the sales are good enough for the games to continually be localized
