Forums - Gaming - Did Sony/MS give us anything more than 'tech'?

Horrible thread. Microsoft revolutionized online gaming on consoles, brought shooters to the platform and even recently introduced the best digital-purchase and refunding services available on console, available.

Eh no. SEGANET was there before. Dreamcast first console with built in modem. XBL took a lot from SEGANET. Better yes but the foundation was laid already. I mean Phantasy Star Online the very first console to have a MMO. Online matches with Quake and NFL 2k. DLC for games and download smaller games. I could even call people on the phone with DC. With the DreamEye it had a Youtube like service 7 years before YouTube existed.  DreamEye doubled as a camera on the go then upload the pics online. Stuff Xbox didn't even do til 360 and even XBO.

I mean the HDD in Xbox helped become standard.
Sony added the second analog stick.
While SEGANET predates XBL MS did kick off the console indie scene on XBLA on 360.
If you consider Achievements a thing there is that (personally think they hurt it)

That said most of what we take for granted on consoles and in game design is mostly from Nintendo and SEGA (SEGA of the 90s).

HDDS are nothing but builtin rewritable cartridges.

And Nintendo added the first (and actually used it the way it should be)

Online gaming was on PC and was free before MS or Sega tried it.

Achievements (cheevos) are a stain on videogaming. Real achievements like losing weight or being sociable (Wii Fit/PokGo or any local multi game) is a bigger 'cheevo'.

I know you're a sega fan but lets not get too notalgic. Sonic was never a credible rival to Mario and Sega was never as revolutionary as Nintendo. Don't get me wrong, I'd much prefer it if Sega or Valve or Notch created a console built around their games

Boy... This is gonna get ugly. Both Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft are great companies that continue providing their audiences with many great things and will continue to do so while constantly raising the bar of what they can achieve. They've all contributed something notable to gaming, something few can say. The End : )

Microsoft also is using technology and is combining it with "more" which you apparently cant see, by customizing technology they are able to make it easier for developers to remove bottlenecks and get the best versions of their games running and trough technology they made last generation games available in better quality, if thats not worth paying for, nothing is. If nintendo did it you would pay up.

Sony brought so many things to the console space in both hard- and software you would need a wiki page and with games like ICO, Shadow of the colossus and the game naughty dog makes they brought a different kind of gaming to our living room where Nintendo never truly grasped the new kind of storytelling and depends on excellent game-play instead.

You like nintendo, fine, but don't make it look like they are the only once worth supporting, every console is worth owning and then again none are its just about what interests you and all 3 have many interesting things in software, games and tech.

Tech, tech, tech.

You're proving my point for me.

I'ma dip out of this thread while I still can; methinks it might get messy in here.

Stop shitposting and answer the question.

Before telling someone to stop shitposting, maybe you should do so yourself.

You should have started doing so right before you hit the "submit thread" button.

I don't have a ton of time right now, but off the top of my head I would argue that they helped push the evolution of storytelling and unique game design in a way it probably wouldn't have gone without them.

Really it's freedom that they brought to gaming.

Storytelling is the antithesis of freedom.

Play my story v make your own.

What games though?

Have any of them stood the test of time or are they all games that rely on 'tech' (graphics, online).

This topic isn't just bad but the person doesn't admit he is seeing his own VERY black and white view and he isn't willing to adjust his few even slightly.

This topic should be closed
