Forums - Nintendo - Switch Needs a Wii Sports/Nintendo Land/Wii Play.

Do you want a Wii Sports Resort/Nintendo Land type game on the Switch?

No, motion controls are dead... 25 42.37%

Yes, motion controls and ... 34 57.63%

Total:59

Desperately needs a new Wii Sports title (Switch Sports?), Mario Party, or something along those lines.

This console is perfect for those sort of party games, but the 1-2 Switch isn't even half as fun as those past titles.

It has one. It's called 1,2 Switch.

The market for this type of game is largely gone. That's why it's not a priority for Nintendo. I think also they want to distance themselves from the Wii brand in general.

Why don't they go back to making actual sports games? Like I wouldn't mind a *real* tennis game on Switch. Or a real basketball game. Or a real hockey game. Or a baseball game.

I think a game that can compete with what other devs already make would be very hard. Those guys get away with it since they only have to make some changes each year, but I think a real quality sport sim is hard to make. It's even worse when you consider people tend to only stick with one (see PES, it was once huge and quality has come back but still people stick with a well made FIFA) so I don't think it would get to reasonable sales

Best thing would be a sports arcade game like Strikers or Mario Tennis IMO

It needs actual sports games. Like the NES, SNES, and N64 had. People in their 20s/30s like sports, that's who's buying the system right now. Not kids, and not the Wii Sports crowd.

Mario Party is pretty much a given on any Nintendo system.

I think things like FIFA and NBA2K can perhaps do well on the system if they are decent ports because of the portability factor.

Yup, just waiting for all these mini-games that are going to sell tens of millions of copies. Any day. Annnnnnny day. Oh wait and 1,2 Switch doesn't count.

Does Nintendo even know what this audience wants anymore? What was their last big hit with this crowd? Wii Fit Plus .... in 2009. That's how many years ago now? I think Britney Spears had a hit single in 2009 too.

What exactly have Nintendo figured out with regards to this audience? Doesn't seem like anything to me.

Zelda is what's selling this thing, that and the fact that it doesn't look like or is marketed like a child's toy. Those are the two most important things about the system. If 1,2 Switch was the lead software title or even Wii Sports 3, I gauruntee this thing would be sitting on storeshelves collecting a bunch of dust just like the 3DS did with Nintendogs + cats.

It wouldn't hurt if you read the posts that you are responding to. Don't you get tired of your random rants?

Which party games are "lighting up" the charts? Specifically which ones from Nintendo? *crickets*.

Even Just Dance from the looks of it decided to go the way of the dinosaur.

I agree about actual sports games, but those are two entirely different things. I personally plan to get the NBA 2k title and FIFA, but I also want a party style game like Wii Sports.

There's no reason we can't have both, especially given the "sports titles" are 3rd party.

What we truly need is a new Warioware.

1-2 Switch should have been Warioware, that franchise is designed for those extremely short minigames and dang can it be fun when done right.

Definitely would love a Warioware... tons of fun and costs comparatively very little to develop.

I actually would like the return of more casual sports games from Nintendo, BUT NOT Wii Sports. I'm talking like things like Ice Hockey, Baseball, Tennis, etc. on the NES/Famicom.

Games that have actual depth to them, but are simple to pick up and play, something you could play with a friend, and something that doesn't have a bunch of cartoon characters in it (sorry Mario).

Those are more of Nintendo's actual heritage too.

I was talking about the future, not the present.

Keep hoping for that future. Nintendo doesn't even need it, if the Switch is selling this well doesn't it undermine your entire premise that they "need" those types of games? Seems to me like epic Nintendo games like Zelda and a system that doesn't look like a toy does pretty well if they can maintain such momentum they're fine.

If that audience was really there or going to magically sprout out of nowhere in a couple of years, 1,2 Switch should be selling at least 1/3 of Wii Play even, but we all know it's not even going to come close to that.

There's actually a lot of depth to the second Wii Sports title, and I was thinking with how impressive the tech in the joycons is and how good they've got at working with such tech that they could make a really great and inviting new Sports title.

I think the perspective of the Wii has sort of tainted the perspective of those Wii Sports and similar titles, but they certainly weren't the problem; indeed, it was almost impossible not to have fun playing them with friends, and they're absolutely perfect for this console.

I don't really think Nintendo needs to go for more realistic Sports titles as there's already games out there to fill that void... where they can thrive is in the arcade-style sports games. I certainly don't need the Wii Sports-esque game I'm asking for to look similar to the previous ones (doesn't need to feature Mii's and such), but I think cartoonish characters or over-the-top people like the lineup from the recent Punch Out are perfect for their types of games.

1-2 Switch isn't selling as well because it's not even half as fun as those past titles. Wii Sports and such were fun games that also served as a tech demo, but 1-2 Switch is a tech demo that has none of the Nintendo "feel" or look and, to be frank, just isn't very fun.
