THQ has announced that Saints Row 2 is coming to PS3 and Xbox 360 on August 26th.

In the US, anyway - it's not yet clear if the game will get a simultaneous release in Europe.

The news came at THQ's Gamers' Day event in San Francisco, currently being attended by our very own Tom. He's also reporting that there's no sign of Dawn of War 2 at the event, despite the game having been announced yesterday.

Oh well. In the meantime you can visit the new Saints Row 2 website, if that's your sort of thing, or learn more about the game via the gamepage.

As I mentioned before I bought a 360 for part 1 so I can't wait for this one as well.

Since I saw some of the Saints Row hate on another thread I figure I respond to them here in advance.

yes hopefully this time around it will be a much better game and won't get lost in the shuffle.

OT: 

This game will be great. 

The question is whether I'll have enough time left for sandbox games this year after GTAIV.  If I don't I'll pick this up during early next year's gaming lul.

I have pretty high hopes for this game. People give it shit for being a GTA rip off but it really isn't, that's like calling Uncharted a Gears of War ripoff.

I hope that it will be a much better game this time around. We'll see how well it does now that there's actual competition in that market, especially in the wake of GTAIV.

Well gta4 made some changes to their hud and aiming that where introduced in Saints Row but of course nobody would call them ripoffs LOL. Similar I am sure Saints Row 2 will offer some things are being shown in gta4 etc. Is kind of dumb how people praise competition yet when gta finally gets some since all the previous attempts where so bad it is just dismissed as a ripoff. Nobody is saying Saints Row was perfect but it did a great job emulating and even improving on many of the things gta did unlike all the previous ps2/xbox knockoffs which had horrible gameplay etc. Guess I just think the whole ripoff logic is flawed since most games are ripoffs in some way. As long as they are making their ripoffs better is all I care for and is the reason why sequels typically do so danm well (looking at you nintendo heh)

 Didn't you get the memo? EVERY sandbox genre game is a GTA rip off, if it's gangster related sandbox game then it's a two time GTA rip off.

I agree that the game wasnt that bad , but calling Uncharted a Gears ripoff is pretty far fatched . This is just like calling Table Tennis a Pong ripoff , or Resident Evil an Alone in The Dark ripoff ...

This game when my bro played it reminded me of 50 cent, a gangsta wanna be with no substance, no talent, a disgrace to their industry( 50 cent to rap and Saint's Row to gangsta sandbox games). Why the hell did they put this trash on the PS3; did it sell that well on 360 to warrant the multi this time around?
