Forums - Politics - Chechnya detains 100 gay men in first concentration camps since the Holocaust

Utterly disgusting.

It is no surprise. I have seen a supposed russian comedy where a teenage boy was brutally beat up for being gay. That passes for comedy in russia.

Deus Ex (2000) - a game that pushes the boundaries of what the video game medium is capable of to a degree unmatched to this very day.

So homosexual men (not women as well?) are being held captive in some sort of prision because of their homosexuality? Is that really true? What the actual fuck is UN doing? That's a crime against human rights.

There are literally dozens of countries where homosexuality grants you the death penalty or prison for life.

There is not a single country on Asia who recognizes same-sex couples - and only South Africa on the whole continent of Africa - whose population will double or triple by the end of the century - does. So there is the reality of 75% of the world's population - and thus some 75% of UN's member countries. Want another example? On a lot of muslim countries you get the death penalty for leaving Islam (and unfortunately it seems more likely that more countries come up with such laws than abandon them right now).

We tend to forget that Western society and morals comprise but a tiny portion of the World's population, some 20%, if you are generous and throw the whole of Japan and Latin America in it. And it is a shrinking group, both on population and economic influence.

I think I know the answer!
USA biggest ally, Saudis, kills people for being gay. I think, Putin wants to improve relations with USA, and tries to start with some camps, to see, if it will please US.

And I think you try to talk bad about a lot the "West" does in many political threads but when Russia or other countries in that region do shit you try to distract from it or act as if it's not that bad.

Whataboutism seems strong with you.

I have a huge advantage over you. I can get information on West directly from cnn/bbc/nyt, or talking to people. And your view on Russia is totally twisted, cause only the bullshit articles like this get translated for western reader.

Press secretary of head of Chechnia:
'That article is an absolute lie. You can't arrest or suppress those who not exist in our republic'
'If people like this were in Chechnia, the authorities will have nothing to do with them. Cause the families and relatives will send them to the place of no return'

Don't forget, that muslim extremists were highly supported by the West in 90-s, when Chechnia wanted independance.

According to wiki:

"Islam is the predominant religion in Chechnya, practised by 95% of those polled in Grozny in 2010.[83] Chechens are overwhelmingly adherents to the Shafi'i Madhhab of Sunni Islam,[84] the republic having converted to Islam between the 16th and the 19th centuries. Due to historical importance, many Chechens are Sufis, of either the Qadiri or Naqshbandi orders. Most of the population follows either the Shafi'i or the Hanafi,[85] schools of jurisprudence, fiqh. The Shafi'i school of jurisprudence has a long tradition among the Chechens,[86] and thus it remains the most practiced.[87]"

More than 100 gay men have been detained in concentration camp-style prisons in the Russian region of Chechnya, according to reports by local newspapers and human rights organisations.

Read rest at link below...

Will the human race never learn from past mistakes?

What about the concentration camps in Srebrenica in the 90s?

Will Western people never learn about it?

I was going to say the same thing.  This story sounds bad, but calling it the first camps since WW2 is false and sensationalism.  There have been a lot of camps and genocide since then.
