Sooo I'm recovering from a stupid cold. I smell things differently, feel things differently and it reminds me when I used to feel like this in the past. One memory that sticks out the most is when I was playing my brand new DS when I was sick at 9 years old.
It was my 9th birthday on a nice spring day. I was opening all my gifts from people who attended my birthday party. As soon as I began to open the gifts, my grandfather walks in the room with a small gift bag. I asked him if he wanted cake before he left and said "No thank you. But happy birthday Andrew." I smiled as he walked out the door. I opened the gift he gave me and I was amazed what I pulled out of the bag because I never seen one in person before. A Nintendo DS game! I told my Mom that I didn't have the proper console for it. All I had was A Sony PS2, Microsoft Xbox, Nintendo Gameboy Advance, SP, N64, and a Gamecube. But not the newest Nintendo handheld. She said "Oh wow. Don't worrry Andrew. We'll get you a DS" and hearing her words gave me joy! If it wasn't for my grandfather getting that game for me. My Mom wouldn't ever get me a DS sooner. The game was called "Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects". I was excited to play it because it had Spider-Man. I've always had a thing for Spider-Man since I was a toddler. I grew up watching Spider-Man.
We asked my older cousin Anthony for help in finding a Nintendo DS. Back then our small community didn't really have mainstream products in stores. But today it's a small city and has everything. Cousin Anthony was the guy to go to for getting stuff. As a young adult, with a vehicle, time and youth. He could do anything for us. A few days passed by and he came to our house and said "This man approuched me and asked if I wanted to buy a.... Nintendo DS." Anthony told him to hold unto to it so he can get the money from his Auntie (My Mom). My Mom gave Anthony the money to go get the handheld. It was early in the morning and I was excited! As my Mom and I waited patienly in the living room for Anthony to arrive. Then we heard a knock on the door. My Mom answered it and it was Anthony and his girlfriend Ashton. Ashton was a very nice short little lady. As a 10 year old I was almost tall as her. I won't ever forget the moment where he pulled the white Nintendo DS box out of his jacket. It's like time froze over and it was a great experience. He and Ashton helped us unbox the handheld. Telling us what the manual says, what the cover for the GBA slot was for and telling us his experiences about the original Nintendo Gameboy. I was very suprised to see it had a GBA slot. I had a bunch of GBA games so it was the perfect handhelf for me. After they left, I played the video game my grandfather gave me and it was fun. I was suprised how technology advanced it was compared to my blue GBA SP. To this day I still think about what happened on that fine weekend morning. All thanks to my grandfather who I loved! I miss you everytime I think about you. We'll meet again.
