CS: GO will age well and any realistic looking games from 2013 and 2014 will age bad

I agree with some in this thread. I'm able to go back to last gen pretty regularly and not think the games are outdated.

3rd, 4th, and 7th gen are okay. There's a lot of crap but I can find quite a few games that are still worth playing amongst them. I look at my 6th and 5th gen libraries and find very few gems.

Age well:

Tearaway Unfolded

The Tomorrow Children

Bloodborne

Overwatch

Nier Automata

Guilty Gear Xrd

Ratchet & Clank

The Last Guardian

Odin Sphere
Wont age well:
Basically anything that involves realistic graphics. Witcher 3 will be horribly outdated. I remember how good UC2 looked and graphics couldnt get better, here we are with UC4 which no doubt will look outdated like UC2 in the PS5 era.
One of the few "realistic" game I'd say aged well is Killzone 2.

Breath of the wild will age very gracefully. Horizon Zero Dawn will age poorly. It's already outdated compared to Zelda and hopefully we'll get past the fixation on motion blur and bloom all over the screen.

For VR games, Rez Infinite will age very well, it already did. Stuff like Robinson is already outdated. All VR games that limit your movement will age very poorly. The sooner the teleport mechanic is forgotten, the better.

You'd be surprised how outdated BOTW will be with its washed out colors after the next Zeruda comes out and look 10x better.

Especially with all the fog and haze that's going on in the game.

I mean who after all still talks about Skyward Sword's graphics despite looking like this

You sure that those washed out colors don't come from improper screen captures? That was a problem for alot of people.

Bet with PeH:

I win if Arms sells over 700 000 units worldwide by the end of 2017.

Bet with WagnerPaiva:

I win if Emmanuel Macron wins the french presidential election May 7th 2017.

I kinda feel like Breath of the Wild has instantly made just about every other open world game feel obsolete overnight, to me anyway. I revisited a few like Xenoblade X and AC IV and they just feel so static and dated now.

Counter to what many here feel, i think stuff like Uncharted 4 will actually age quite well. I feel like we've arrived at the point that as long as the game in question makes good use of its technology and knows where to use a degree of stylization to make up for the technical shortcomings of its time, it'll never look actively bad.

They won't age as well as highly stylized stuff like BotW or Persona 5 (both of which look great despite having already effectively aged almost a generation), but i don't see us looking at games like Uncharted 4 in 10+ years and thinking they look bad. We don't even do that for many of the 7th gen's better balanced titles.

8 years down the road I actually still think Uncharted 2 looks great, same for a lot of 7th gen games actually. For that matter, I still find some Gamecube games visually pleasing.

I found many 6th gen games are now unplayable--most recently, my beloved Resident Evil 4.

:( I can't imagine finding RE4 unplayable, it's still my favourite game of all time.

Same here. And yet, there I was. I probably bought it half a dozen times. But when I was playing it on Xbox One a few weeks ago, I couldn't do anything. The simplest task was a challenge because of the controls. It looked pretty bad too.

I think I'd find it hard to go back to any version that uses analogue aiming after become accustomed to the super fast pointer aiming of the Wii Edition, but when I lasted played that version played back in 2015 I found it held up marvellously for a game 10 years and two generations old, but different strokes for different folks I suppose.
