I want all 3 companies to offer different experiences.
Well I went for switch because more versatile, already got a ps4 so don't need a ps4pro, and as there are no games that interest me on xbox one, I won't get a xbox Scorpio either. May get a ps4 pro one day if my ps4 breaks but otherwise not interested. So yeah just switch for me.

On the Pro games run better and have better frames so a game being 60fps but dropping to 45fps on regular PS4 vs a game being locked 60fps you overall get a better game experience because you won't be distracted by frame drops. |
Where is the innovation or evolution on that?

Being primarily an RPG player (including most sub-genre RPGs like ARPGs and FPSRPGs), most other genres bore me. Games like Final Fantasy XV, Fallout 4, Persona 5, Skyrim, Tales of Zesteria, Xenoblade, Destiny, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Souls/Bloodborne, Star Ocean, etc, are what I expect.
Ultimately that means games that are visually unappealing must have the best gameplay known to exist for me to be able to enjoy it. Which is generally not a problem because RPGs like that don't normally exist on home consoles. Handhelds are another story. RPGs on handhelds are usually a no go to begin with, unless we are talking about retro RPGs, because handhelds are usually so underpowered that developers generally make really crapy looking games with gameplay that is hardly ever good enough to compensate.
So what do I seek? For modern games I expect a good or stellar blend of graphics and gameplay. Story obviously significantly matters. Originality not so much, though I do love a new RPG IP (recent Horizon: Zero Dawn as a perfect example). New ways to play hardly matter, most good ways of playing have been thought of, its just a matter of implementing them correctly.
As for the criticism of the Switch. The answer is varied. For people who want certain games, especially multi-platform, buying a system with inferior specs is a deterrent. I would rather play a game like Final Fantasy on the more powerful hardware rather than the weakest. That is not to say that good looking games with good gameplay can't come out on the Switch, Zelda and potentially Xenoblade 2 are/will be good examples, it just makes it harder. Multi-platform games will suffer under the Switch, either by always being inferior to those on the PS4 and XBONE, or by being fewer in number (basically multi-plats skipping the Switch) unless the Switch takes off and overruns the other platforms. This just means if I want the most games, with the most potential to being good, on _one_ platform, then choosing the Switch over the others seems like an unwise choice. Of course if you have the money it is also a no brainer to just go ahead and buy all of the consoles.

Evolution is from a non stable 60fps to a solid 60fps. Also better looking games.

And how is that evolution, wasnt that already a reality for the last 30 years everytime you bought a new graphics card on a PC?
You mean evolution is a new 400$ dollar console every year to increase framerate? Damn...

As long as MS allows me to continue playing their Xbox games on PC, more power to them.

I was on about us having to go with what the few on here want the industry to go for, not what devs want to. There are already devs out there that pander to those who want different experiences. |
Aah, gotcha o/

Id love if there was a "Nintendo adapter/converter" made, that "fit" into the usb-c port of the switch, that allowed you to play 3DS games on the Switch :)
