I think it will be more than that, but thats just me, a crazy predciting guy.

Its definitely possible. A lot depends on the reviews of the game, and the *style* of the game.

I say again - I can see SA being so popular because of its focus on GHETTO culture. Kids these days just love that stuff.

Replace that with a more serious story/style involving Russian mafia figures... and its resembling a more typical "hardcore" (or gamers) game than a casual game.

But its hard to imagine GTA4 not outselling COD4. After 1 month on sale (everywhere), it may well have racked up 5-6m in sales. The combined install base is almost 30m. Imagine if they had a Wii version on sale as well...

They're expecting the most casual-attracting game on the planet to do substantially better on the 360 and PS3, than the previous part did on the PS2? It could very well get close to 10M combined, seeing how well CoD4 is doing, but some of these numbers are absolutely insane.

For the record - GH3 (on PS2 + PS3 + Wii + 360) has sold around 11m units - in about 6 months. Once you hit multiple platforms, across multiple territories - sales tend to explode.

And look at Brawl - its sold 4m, across ONE platform, in two territories in 2 months. Pretend the platform is doubled, and add Europe - and its an easy sell of 10m in just 2 months.

Looking at it again, GTA4 should *easily* do 10m this year. If the game is good enough, it could so an insane figure... as high as 15m-20m. Yeah - that insane.

The USA in particular the biggest video game market in the world are hardcore when it comes to buying games. I noticed that of the Halo 3 copies sold 5.5 million have been sold in the Americas alone. The other 2 million have been sold in the other regions. COD4 has also sold a huge amount in Americas.

GH3 is a completely different type of game than GTA4, so I don't think it is a good comparison. And about Brawl sales, releasing a game across multiple platforms does not automatically double the sales.

Personally I have no idea how many copies this game will sell, I'll just leave it at thinking 13M for 2008 alone seems a bit optimistic. But the article actually has a far more crazy prediction, saying Final Fantasy XIII will sell 8M copies in 2008.

No chance in HELL this is happening. I call flop on GTA4.

13m may be an under estimate, this is the first time that the game has a chance of selling well on multiple formats.

vg$ bet?

GTA 4 will sell 13 million units for both platforms combined by the end of 2008.

I assume when you say flop you mean 5-6 million this year, which would be a flop for a GTA game, which normally do very well.

If I assume correctly that you mean 5-6 million this year, I too have that feeling. It comes and goes. Sometimes I think it'll do very nicely, with roughly 8-9 million this year, which is on par with GTA3, and with legs, that it may or may not have, it could easily become the second best selling GTA game, after San Andreas. On the other hand, I sometimes think it'll only do nicely, with maybe 4-6 million this year, topping out at 6-7 million with legs. Not that 6-7 million is really all that bad. Not bad at all really. It's just that it not quite what Rockstar was probably hoping for.

Lifetime sales sort of depend on how well the consoles continue selling through 2010, or when the next GTA game comes out.

Either way, it won't be a flop in the sense that it doesn't push past a million or two million.
