Forums - Nintendo - How much would Nintendo hardware cost to produce without gimmicks?

OK, so $199 or less if not for gimmicks.

Portability is a gimmick when the battery life is 3 hours.

Personally, I love the 3D effect of the 3DS. But I can't help but admit that it adds a lot to the price of the system.

Switch 90 bucks i think

If Nintendo created a Switch without a battery, dockable screen, Joycons, game cards, or HD rumble how much would it cost to produce? In other words, imagine if the Switch was just a regular console that took regular game disks, came with a pro controller, and an HDMI cable. How much are Nintendo's gimmicks costing us?

How much would a tablet-less Wii U, with a pro-controller instead, cost?

How about a 3DS XL, without the 3D effect?

Right now I think the switch probably costs like 200-240$ ish to make, and they sell it for 299$.

If it was a PS TV (ps vita small homeconsole) version of a switch they could probably make that for like 150$ and sell for 199$.

It wouldn't be much cheaper. Cheaper to make, sure.

He is talking about a simple home console. Battery, screen, this stuff is expensive.

If I worked at NoA I'd be pushing Reggie to petition Japan to make exactly that for the American market. At least as an option. Just like how they did the 2DS as a more affordable variant of the 3DS.

It would cost less. Though I suppose they could go for more power instead?

give it time, i strongly believe we will see a revision like that along with a smaller, handheld only version.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

Just found out the Shield can play multiplats like Andromeda. So portable-less switch would cost even less?

I dont see how you can call things like screen, battery or game cards gimmicks. Also disk games actually make console more expensive than game cards. Portability is not a gimmick.

Switch just for home play could cost around $100 cheaper than current version, I guess we will have in some point revision of Switch just for home play and onther just for handheld play.
