Forums - Gaming - Hardcore Wii and PS3 owners. Would you consider a 360?

I currently own a Wii which i have greatly enjoyed, and I plan on purchasing a PS3. I am waiting for Final Fantasy, Little Big Planet and the price to go under $300. Preferrably it would be a slimline version. Blu-Ray winning has sinched this as an eventual purchase.

While I have recommended getting the 360 to many people it is not for me.

RROD- Yes the falcon chips have helped, the new heatsinks have helped but it is the dieshrink for the GPU that will finally solve this for good. ETA for this is summer 08. I know they extended the warranty but I can still play my NES,SNES, N64, DC, PS1, PS2 many years after I bought them. Yes my PS2 won't play dvds anymore but it was a launch system and stll plays games. 5 years from now are you going to want to pay to have your system fixed again?

Price- As I have never paid over $299 for a system I don't plan to in the future either. While it was the clear leader it was too expensive. Now if I get the cheapest system(Arcade) and I need a hard drive, wifi adaptor, extra controller etc. That is a significant cost still. And Live, sorry not going to pay that for somethign that should be free.

Games- I am not much of a fan of shooters and racers. I get probably 1 of each a generation and while I would probably get Call of Duty 4 or Gears I am not sure there is much value beyond what I can find on the PS3 for my taste. I already own Oblivion on the PC, and it can handle many of the best 360 games. Party games to play with friends and the Wife are well covered by the Wii. Platformers and adventure games done better by both other consoles. Puzzle games covered by my ds. The only games that are pulling at me are the RPGs. I am tempted by Lost Odyssey, and Fable 2(Mass Effect and other shooter RPGs are not my taste). But my recent purchase of a DS more than compensates for that.

So I am sure that the 360 is the perfect console for some people but given my circumstances I find it the most expensive, least diverse lineup, and least reliable. It still intrgues me as a media extender and there are a few games I like but it is just too targeted for teenagers.

Final* Word on Game Delays:

The game will not be any better or include more content then planned. Any commnets that say so are just PR hogwash to make you feel better for having to wait.

Delays are due to lack of proper resources, skill, or adequate planning by the developer.

Do be thankful that they have enough respect for you to delay the game and maintain its intended level of quality.

*naznatips is exempt

No, hardware reliability is poor, I leave my Wii on 24/7, it like an 18 watt light bulb.

There are too many horror stories about hardware reliability. Some of them have had 5 360 failures, each time they have to wait several weeks too get it back.

If they fix the hardware reliability problem, then I would get one, the games look great !!!!!!

Consoles LTD, end 2009, end 2010 - prediction

Wii -  68 million, 90 million - Wii HD in late 2011 - $249

360 - 38 million, 47 million - 720 in late 2010 - $299

PS3 - 31 million, 43 million - slim PS3 in mid 2009 - $299

Wii first owner here.  I have the 360 Elite and about 10 games for it.   Absolutely NO plans to buy a PS3...........

I own a Wii and PS3 but probably won't be getting an XB360. Not because I think it's bad, just because I don't really need all 3 systems. I had a hard time deciding Wii/XB360 or Wii/PS3 though, it took me months to make up my mind. In the end it come down to exclusives, Tales of Vesperia (probably wont make it to Europe) VS Final Fantasy 13 and Metal Gear 4. And Blu-Ray was a bonus too.

I bought a 360 at launch. I bought if for the same reason I bought a PS2. JRPG's are my favorite genre and frankly the PS3 doesn't cut it. The Wii gives me Nintendo exclusives the PS3 gives me games I can live without. If I had forgone a 360 for a PS3. The only JRPG I would have gotten to play this generation would have been Enchanted Arms. I beat Enchanted Arms before a RPG even released on 360 or Wii for that matter. When I bought my 360 no one knew about the reliability issues, but thankfully MS has been far more progressive with handling RRoD than Sony was with handling DRE on PS2. Maybe I wouldn't be so sour on Sony if they didn't have to get sued to acknowledge product quality issues.

I will probably eventually buy an Xbox 360, HOWEVER, I won't do so until they make a damn near completely reliable model, slimmer, and @ a $199 Price point. The PS3 is my all in one device and it's more than worth the cost in my opinion. The 360 will be a gaming device ONLY.

I really hate the fact that the online isn't free :/ I don't play games online very often and I don't feel the cost is justified.

Only a very limited amount of exclusives that I want on the console. (still more than the wii >

From 0 to KICKASS in .stupid seconds.

Not really.
Besides the whole RROD thing, which would be reason enough, most of the games on the system don't really appeal to me. And most of the ones that do are or will be available on the PC or PS3.

Besides, I currently own a Wii and a PS3. I don't have the time to play all the games I want on both systems, so I really don't need a third one.

Have a PS3 and a Wii, and I can honestly say that I don't think there's anything likely to happen that would make me get a 360. I don't have the money and I just don't need all three consoles. I can understand people that enjoy their 360's, I just don't think I need one.

...

No.
Will never touch a gamepad again.

Well... it's RPG selection is not that bad... but the unreliable hardware and old-school controllers turn me off a bit.

Still, I'd prefer a 360 over a PS3 any day.
