Forums - Sales - Will 2017 end the yearly decline of dedicated gaming hardware?

You should rename the topic to "decline in dedicated handheld market" because really that's what's been declining.

Pretty sure consoles have declined as well.

From 2007-2011, Wii+PS3+360 averaged over 40 million/year.

From 2014-2016, PS4+XBO+Wii U averaged under 28million/year.

The Wii doesn't count

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

Ya so basically excluding Wii/DS/PSP, nearly 340 million units or 2/3 of all 7th generation hardware sales, than the current market is doing great!!!!

Never mind Wii U launched 2012.

Interesting, didn't know that it was a trend but now that I think about it, it does make a lot of sense

I feel that it will be close this year, but I'll be a pessimistic and say no. Hopefully I'm wrong though

I was mistakenly comparing 2005-2008 to 2013-2016, had to edit out that foolishness.

gotcha, if you were wondering why i used 2007 & 2014 for my start years, its because those are the first full years of all three being on the market.

Really good breakdown. I'm honestly not sure.

The world has not recovered from the 2008 economic meltdown. We have experienced a global recession for 10 years. The politicians, media and economists are liars if they tell you otherwise. Mass unemployment, businesses closing down, low interest rates, property price falls are clear signs of a struggling global economy. Video game industry success relied heavily upon middle class to waste money on video games. A decline in wages and increasing unemployment, have resulted in a downturn in consumer spending on video games.
