Forums - Sales - Have you purchased a console on Launch day?

I have purchased a N64 priced at $400 on launch day in Australia, March 10 1996 and a XBox 360  at $700 on launch day, March 23, 2006 The PS3 was priced at $1000 in Australia on launch day March 23, 2007. That put me off a grand for a console and I waited until it was $700 and purchased one before Xmas 2007.

Were you one of the crazy people who queued to get your console at midnight?

*US launch date for N64 was September 1995.

**US launch date for XBox 360 was 22 November 2005.

***US launch date for PS3 was 11 Nuvember 2006.

Oh man, I remember I was pretty close on purchasing my PS3 on launch day.

But... instead I waited a few days till April 10th and bought it then instead.

I've never bought a console on launch day, but I admit I was tempted to do so with the Wii and PS3. I will however have my first launch day games purchase known as MGS4 :).

 Consoles: Wii & PS3.

I got my GameCube, Wii, GBA, GBA SP, DS and DS Lite all as soon as they came out. Actually earlier, because I usually order my stuff from an online store which ships its products to consumers as soon as they get them, which is usually 2 to 3 days before the official release date. :) I honestly don't see why so many people bother to get in lines, sometimes even for days.

I did for the Wii and DS.

With the Wii I scoped out our Wal-Mart early that morning and nobody was getting in line for the Wii, unlike the PS3, which had a small line forming at least 1.5 days early. My mother called and woke me up that evening telling me I'd better get up there if I wanted a Wii. Me and my ex were 23 and 24 in line, and I'd estimate there were over 50 in line when it was all said and done. When the DS launched I was the only person there to pick one up at midnight. Funny how things change so much. Last week at that same Wal-Mart there was only one DS in stock.

I got the N64 and SNES launch week for sure, but not certain if it was launch day or not.

I got my PS1 6 months before PS2 launch (well actually my mum got it for me without me asking) then I got the PS2 in January, after my mum had ordered it for launch (but I was only 8 and not really fully into videogaming, so did not really know about the PS2 launch).
The more recent ones were I got my PSP on launch, I got my PS3 on launch, I got my PSP Slim & Lite a day after launch, cause it was not delivered on launch day. I also buy nearly every game I get on launch day

The closest I've come to purchasing a console at launch was the Wii. I picked it up 2 weeks afterwards, once I tried it out first.

SNES,N64, Gamecube and Wii

Don´t remember if I got the NES at launch day but it´s quite possible.

The other consoles I bought when price hit a range I found affordable.

Nope - but if I'd known Sony were giving away free Bravias in London then I would have...

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

I got my N64 and Wii at launch. I got my ps3 as close to launch as I could (December 5), and would've gotten it on launch had the ebayers not beaten me to line. I did get one of the first 400k that came free with Talladega Nights.

I got (well my parents got me =P ) a Wii two weeks after it launched in Europe, but that's it. All my other consoles have been second hand, except for the PS3 I got last year.
