That's odd! According to gameidealist the digital version of Lego City Undercover only requires 7.1 GB of space.

Rumors go (at least as far as a Reddit article) that the other 13 gigs have to be downloaded. So as the story goes assuming this trend continues which would you prefer. A game costing $10 more (rime/Minecraft story mode) or the game being split across the cartridge and a download? http://www.polygon.com/2017/3/27/15078334/lego-city-undercover-download-size-nintendo-switch |
This is soooooo f***ing stupid and should not be allowed!
They sell you a physical game (7gb out of 20gb total), that requires you to download 13 gb+ (patch) (or else game cant run).
I mean WTF the greed of them.
If you buy physical and see this lable or any like it, please boycutt that crap:

They actually managed to squeeze a 20GB game into just 7GB, but they reckon that Switch will make you so horny that you'll have to download 13GB of porn.
Do we have any numbers on how much Switch cartridges cost to produce? I find it hard to believe they cost that much, but it is odd that several games would either significantly increase their cost or make things difficult for the consumer in favour of a smaller cartridge.

Now explain digital price.
I think the high sales and lack of SW competition for Switch games has something to do with it too.
I mean if Konami can hit record sales with a $50 Bomberman game in 2017 - why wouldn't you increase prices on a $30 by $10 to $40?
I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016
Firstly its not what the cartridges cost to produce its what Nintendo charge the publishers. If Macronix charge Nintendo $2 for a 1GB cartridge and $6 for a 32GB cartridge that doesn't mean that is what the publishers pay, it could be $4 for a 1GB cart and $9 for a 32GB cartridge. We just don't have the figures but Nintendo will put a good cut on for themselves.
I'm sure many games will be cut down in size for Switch. Many games were cut down in size on Vita over ps3 versions even though the Vita has more memory than ps3. This is simply a factor of cartridge costs and limited flash memory storage. Portable vs home console issues really. So it shouldn't be surprising if Switch games get reduced in size over wii u. 20GB is almost all Switch flash memory if you don't expand it.
To a lesser extend there was the same issue with 360 vs PS3 due to the ps3's bluray disc and lack of hard drive on many 360 consoles. PS3 games were often larger than 360 games, better high fidelity audio tracks, more pre-rendered video often at higher resolutions and sometimes additional content and that was simply due to the dvd discs vs bluray discs.
I don't think publishers should be criticised for releasing smaller games on Switch its a portable system first and this should be expected.

3DS games cost less than Wii U games and the 3DS had carts, too. It's certainly not the carts that make the games more expensive. I can't believe people continue to bring this up after decades of handheld games being released on the same medium without being more expensive than disc based media.

Easy. Nintendo doesnt want to piss off / screw over, stores that sell physical copies.
After the Wii U, Nintendo want to regain image, and it needs the stores with them.
Also because the switch launches with very little storage space, its better if most of the software sales come from physical.
