Forums - Nintendo - Reggie: Nintendo Switch Is Setting Sales Records Every Day, We’ve Turned the Industry on Its Ear

Lord I hope they don't get overconfident... I remember the Dreamcast also having one hell of a launch.

Circumstances are certainly different now, but they best not start feeling they're in the clear on this one; we need to see how well they bridge the gap between now and the holiday season first.

So the item that you cant find in any store is selling great everyday? Yeah sureeee

Yeah every single console is sold the minute it hits the shelves. So that means it's selling as good as it possibly could have. Your logic is backwards.

Yep! Lol

The Wii launch had very short supplies. If we're talking strictly US (as Reggie is), the ps4 had a much better first month, as it sold a million on its first day of release. The Wii sold 600k in 8 days, so apparently the Switch is doing better than that. The Wii's stock shortages lasted for a long, long time, though.

Worth noting the Wii's shortages after that initial problematic period were in the face of rather than due to the lack of high production rates.  Nintendo is stepping up Switch production quite substantially so we'll see if the next few months are still restricted.

Still all good news.  Numbers will be more interesting though.

Very true, I just meant that Wii's initial shipments (i.e. the first few months) weren't huge. The fact that those shortages lasted for years afterwards was a product of ridiculous demand. As bullish as I am about the Switch, I just don't know if it can do the same. I mean, the Wii had everyone salivating for it, freaking retirement homes were buying units for their residents to use.

Except you can find them in stores. I just checked and two stores in my area have it. One has 2 the other has 6 in stock.

Oh, nooo. The dreaded anecdotal evidence!

So because of this comment I decided to check out the rest of the states. I selected random zip codes from California, Colorado, Massachuetts, and Kentucy. Found some within 30 miles every single time. Not one time was it all sold out.

Either way I expect sales to continue to be great for Nintendo beause this is simply a great idea. One I would be hopping on but after listening to this financial podcast I need to get my house in order first then I'll buy the things I want.

That seems very scientific. I agree with what you say now.

Thanks. It's hard work but I do what I can.

Yeah, I don't get it either.  It was sold out on my Wal-Mart for more than a week and didn't receive more for more than a week as well.

Spurge, who works at Wal-Mart said several times that they get several units every week and they always sell out within hours, so maybe you just missed them.

Damn... Was hoping Nintendo would come to PC...

Numbers, Reggie. Give us numbers.

We all know Switch is selling well. The fact that Nintendo is not giving us numbers and acting all arrogant simply because they are on the up-and-up is actually very refreshing. Way to be humble during this first battle of success. When sales are not flattering, they were trying to hide numbers and it would have been hypocritical for them to come out now throwing numbers in our face.

This sounds like great PR to get people to keep buying this thing....
