Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft’s Efforts to Bring Japanese Games to Xbox One Should be Encouraged, Not Mocked

Um, the 10% for PS3 was from the same SquareTrade data you are referencing, not a Game Informer reader poll. But hey you don't need to reference Game Informer anymore, some guy above just said 80%. His anecdotal evidence is just as credible as a magazine reader poll in comparison to SquareTrade data :)

I'm guessing you don't actually read your own sources. That or you just remember the negative stuff for Xbox and ignore the rest. LOL

No. What good does it do me to have Xbone be a wannabe PS4? The people into those games already got a PS4 for them.

If we need Japanese games on Xbone then they should be exclusive to Xbox. Lost Odyssey 2, some Sega exclusives, PlatinumGames (Scalebound was the perfect game!).

Xbone needs to be like the original Xbox, unique Japanese games exclusive to the platform.

I hope Phil didnt go to Japan to beg for simple ports to his system but actually negotiated exclusives.

How does it deter your gaming experience if Xbox gamers are able to purchase the same Japanese games as you do?

Tell us about the companies Phil visited and deals he made during his trip to Japan you seem well informed.

What does failure rate have to do with this thread? Take the conversation somewhere else, please.

Naw. I rather mock them. Microsoft entering the console and publishing business had a severe negative effect. The whole games industry would be in a better condition without their interference. And they proven this time and again.

Lol what was the severe negative effect lol

Of course MS should try to woo more Japanese developers to their side, yet I think most people are mocking their chances for success, given just how poorly the One has been received in that country so far. A lot of the niche Japanese games that come to PS4 and now, Switch, are made for Japan first and then rolled out to the rest of the world. Porting to the One has, to this point at least, seemed a risky proposition for anything save the Final Fantasys of the world, which will sell enough to cover the costs involved. With MS' switch to UWP, however, i can see some more of the games appearing for the Xbox, due to the simplicity of porting  them over from the PC.

They need Shane Kim back.

Who is that?

Shane Kim was the guy who was essentially like Phil Spencer for Xbox in the mid-late 2000's. Around 2007 when Xbox 360 was getting all of those third party exclusives. People think Phil was the first gamer-centric head of Xbox, but the first two years of the 360 were better for the 360 due to the fact that they had more exclusives coming out more frequently (this could also be due in part because they were winning since Sony chose a high launch price).

Well, it's not a bad thing for them to try, the problem is that most people don't really seem to care anymore. People who are generally interested in Japanese games are much less likely to go for a Microsoft console because they know the games are just not going to be there. And even if they were, the stigma of no Japanese games is already in place and it would take a concerted effort to get rid of it from Microsoft's part, which I doubt they are willing to go through at this point.

Japan is pretty much a lost region to Microsoft at this point. There was a chance after the 360 became at least a moderate success in there, but whatever they won with that console in the region has long since been wasted by the Xbox One.

I think Japan is product nationalist. If their home companies can make more diverse games that are focused on what they culturally like, then the question is why they should even look at Microsoft. This causes third party devs to not even look in Microsoft's direction. If the Japanese buy Xboxes, then Japanese developers in turn will put games on the platform. Look at the 360 when it was winning. It got quite a few Tales JRPG's and broke the Japanese exclusivity of many JRPG's. Microsoft truly does absolutely nothing different that Sony couldnt either do better or adequately replicate and thus, becomes the bland flavor in the corner. Its obvious FPS isnt of high importance over there, or else the Xbox One would be highly favored.

Oh, then yes get that person back.

The reason why Microsoft is finding it hard to get Japanese exclusives is because they are getting destroyed by Sony. Japanese company are more open minded when their home brand is losing. The Xbox One was selling higher than the 360 which means that both the market is health and on a good day for Sony, Microsoft is not it even in their league (as far as world perception and offerings). This is the real problem.

It doesn't deter me, I'm asking what good it does me. If all Phil did was to go there and beg PS4 ports then no one will buy more Xboxes because of it and neither will I.

People want unique games thats exclusive to Xbox and not available on PS4. Scalebound could've been that game. No one wants PS4 ports on Xbox except for the few stubborn people who refused to buy a PS4 for their animu game needs.

If MS wants to sell me a Xbox it needs its own unique games period. Scalebound could've sold me on one, I'm a PG fanboy and it was one of my most anticipated games of the year. Never gonna forgive Phil for treating PG like shit.

This exclusive or bust mentality is only your psychologycal barrier and in no way it is necessary. I don't need my games to be exclusive to appreciate them and yes I'd like to play games like Nier Automata on Xbox. Why should I care if PS fans can also enjoy them?

Phil going to Japan to get Japanese games is a step in the right direction imo. Even if he isn't going for exclusive unique Xbox only games.
