Have there been any Monster Hunter 2 games for PS2 since it's been a huge success for PSP? Was online easily accessible (packed in) for PS2? How well were the PS2 version reviewed? All relevant questions I'm too lazy to look up.

The userbase argument is a pretty lame one too. Once you get to a certain point it doesn't matter that much. It's like saying MGS4 will sell very poorly compared to 1,2, and 3 because the PS3 has a far smaller userbase. I'm willing to bet MGS4 is going to sell just as well as the others did. and I don't think Monster hunter 3 will be hindered because the Japan userbase will only be 7-9 million instead of 15-20 million.

It's a terribly contrived argument to say that "console monster hunter" flops and it's only fun if you can play it on a bus. The PS2 had virtually no online compatibility to speak of (far worse than wii's, even if wii's is bad), Monster Hunter wasn't popular yet, and I'm guessing the PSP versions have improved on the original formula. If you're wondering if Monster Hunter 3 will be big, looking at more recent relevant data seems to be a better indicator than cherry picking some bad figures and proclaiming flop.

It's possible. It all depends on what its online feature is.

Half-assed like SSBB, you are looking at 3 million. At its potential, it can do twice that (in Japan alone, since we know it will barely break a million elsewhere)

with almost non-online play, it won't break 2 million.

I heard something like online co-op. I never played a monster hunter game before so I might pick up the psp one to see what it's like.

I would advice against it. the Online feature that you can play with friends to battle crazy size monsters is the only appeal in my opinion. I've tried it once and ended up doing completely mindless task, it gets boring fast.

Since you won't have 4 friends to play with, there's no point picking it up.

So it's FF12 without the lameass story getting in the way? Sounds fun to me.

possibly the dumbest comment to-date. MH comparing with FF12?????

It wasn't a comparison so much as a dig at Final Fantasy. Which was nothing but a bunch of repetitive tasks tied together by a story that was worse then having no story.

Still FF12 sold well.  As do MMORPGs.  And games like the Sims.

Point is... repetitive mindless tasks are the focus of a lot of games.

I'm not saying Monster Hunter is only fun on a bus.  I play it in my house all the time.

The online was bad...  Much like the Wii's.

It was reviewed bad, much like Monster Hunter Freedom and it's sequel [The PSP ones].

But if you don't believe that the game will do bad, then believe what you want.  But I'm making my predictions based off of what the others sold. and install base.

Actually, with install base factored in, I should only have the Wii version at 200k since it's 1/3 of what it was when it launched on the PS2, but I said 1 million.  so I was helping it out.

I think its too early to make any credible predictions as there isnt enough info on the game aswell as japan being a unpredictable market, so it can potentialy be really huge or it might end up mediocre like the ps2 versions

You only wish.

Honestly, I think you are the one wishing it will do bad. Your taking the numbers from the PS2 version, before the game was even popular in Japan, and using it to further your hopes that this game won't be a system seller for the Wii in Japan.

If MH3 was a PS3 exclusive, I guarntee you would point too it as a "turn around" game for the PS3 in the Japanese market. Who do you think you are trying to fool here?

Sony fanboy talking points are way to flimsy on this subject.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

MH3 will be a million seller, lets just hope NA contributes to sales too

All we ever hear about if this will do good in Japan, but has anyone actually asked if the game will be good? Isn't that more important?

So how do you think MGS4 is going to do? You know, with the small install base and all.

I fully expect it to suck, as have all the other ones, imo, but the Japanese love it and buy it in droves, and the most important battle this gen, is the Japanese battle.

PS3 fanboys are PS3 fanboys because of the PS1 and PS2 Japanese support. If they can't win Japan, they won't get that support like they want it, and if they can't win Japan, it's unlikely they can win the console race, so it's definately the tide turning market, even if it is the smallest.

That's why MH3 is important. Because it will probably further the Japanese embrace of the console it launches on, and the userbase, just like it did for the PSP. Not because we care if the game is good or not.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

Sorry, but I would rather have an average selling great game than a horrible game that is a success. Even if this game does good, it certainly won't have the legs that the PSP versions have to make a lasting impression.
