Forums - Nintendo - Did Gamespot Just Leak Dark Souls III Gameplay Running On The Switch?

Amusing mistake to make given the rumors, though.

It just doesn't make sense. Why would GameStop not only have a copy of DSIII on Switch, but also be recording DLC footage from it, if it hasn't even been announced (not the DLC, the Switch version)?

It's too good to be true.

Edit: Like, it would be the worst looking version of the game, why record off of it?

Gamespot.

Everyone makes mistakes, you re still cool!

Lol, that typo has to happen to everyone at least once

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

I wouldn't be totally shocked to see DS3 end up on the Switch, but that footage doesn't look like it was actually captured on one. There are no visible downgrades from the PS4/X1/PC versions, which is rather unlikely :p

Edit: Ah, just saw Kresnik's post. I guess that confirms the above.

Saw it before, but I would say it is a mistake

Would be pretty awesome if it did come to the Switch though..

It's just a red herring. Dark Souls Switch is not happening. FromSoftware's actual Switch project is Metroid. Believe it!

It would certainly be cool to have Dark Souls on the go, even if the smaller buttons and and screen might make for a slightly tougher experience. Dark Souls 1 would specifically benefit from the port, as it would likely run a little better than the other console versions. I'm surprised it never got the port treatment 2 did, such a shame.

Unfortunately that can't really be said of 2 and especially 3. The Switch version of 3 would either be the worst performing or the worst looking version of the game, possibly both, and it would be up to personal tolerance to dictate if portability is worth the downgrade.

ehhh, Dark Souls is hardly the most demanding game out there in terms of graphics/power. It is not particularly expansive in scenery at any one time in terms of line of sight and things going on in screen.

assuming the Switch is in between the power of the Wii U and Xbox One, Dark Souls I-III are totally possibly and could perform perfectly fine.

if we were talking about something like GTA V in a moderate to high graphical mode? probably not. but Dark Souls? easily. Anyone saying otherwise is kidding themselves.

Reminds me of people earlier on here (or was it GAF?) implying that Overwatch couldn't be optimized to perform well on the Switch. what nonsense. Its hardly more intense than a Splatoon like experience

It's probably my favorite game of all time, gameplay has never been better on the souls franchise.

I hope it's true, even after 400 hours i still play this game every now and then, portable online co-op would be perfect lol.

But fps could be a deal breaker, it runs great on PS4 so here's hoping they sacrifice resolution and textures enough, Dragon Quest Heroes performance is a no-no.

realistically the human eye can only catch so much, if its running at at least 30 FPS it should appear fine. Do note, Dragon Quest Heroes is a terrible example or comparison for ANYTHING

it was rushed out for launch release in Japan. That is why it is so poorly optimized. Dragon Quest Heroes is not a technically advanced game particuarly, it just was rushed.

"Hey everyone! Previously, this video labeled the Dark Souls III: The Ringed City gameplay as being captured on Switch.

This was a mistake and the video has now been updated to correctly label it as PS4 footage. Thanks for anyone who pointed that out for us.

We'd love to see Dark Souls on Switch, though. Fingers crossed!"

Heck, if it is on the Switch, I'll definitely consider it.

I wouldn't say it can't be done, but DS3 would definitely have to be adjusted in some way (either in stability or level of detail, hopefully the latter) considering that on Xbox One and PS4, the game is already pushing it a bit at 30fps. Check out Digital Foundry's look at Dragon Quest Heroes 2, which is on PS4 and Switch. The visuals are close, but it has to run at half the framerate to get the same game running, and if DS3 is already running at 30fps on PS4, then SOMETHING is going to have to give.

Obviously not all development is equal, and it could very well be that Square Enix ran into all manner of technical problems to get a comparable experience going, and that From Software may just pull off a properly opitimized version. I'm just saying that the deck is stacked against it, and hardcore DS fans probably wouldn't be willing to sacrifice a little fidelity for portability.
