Forums - Nintendo - 1-2 Switch looks as ridiculous as Wii Music.

Nah, I disagree. I think 1-2-Switch looks pretty interesting for what it is: a collection of fun and inventive mini games. There are people that like uncrompromissed fun sometimes, you know.

See, this is the problem with us "hardcore" gamers (and gamers on the internet as general)... we think that the only good or valid games are the "serious" or "artistic" ones. The ones that offer either complex gameplay or high production values, but in the end there is a market for games that are more simple or just different... maybe even "crazy"! We have to accept that, we have to realize genres like Party, Arcade, Puzzles, etc. are not automatically bad for being smaller/more simple/having less production value. Of course, you can still not like them, that's ok... these games are not for me either, but it's important to know how to evaluate things and not misjudge a game.

PS: My post is not directed specifically for the OP and of course not to all gamers, but to a big part of them. I'm just tired of this behavior as a whole, it's tiresome.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

I think the backlash comes from Nintendo's behavior during the Wii days, specifically that one E3 where they went full casual and tried to say Animal Crossing was good enough and Wii Music was the next big thing.

It's fine to have the odd mini-game-a-thon, but when it becomes the central focus of a platform, sure you are going to alienate people. People fell in love with Nintendo because of Mario and Zelda and Metroid etc. etc. not because of shallow mini-games that any developer could make.

The Wii era soured a lot of people on all these mini-game/shovelware type titles and now that people can get similar types of experiences on their phones/tablets for free/$1, it really just killed that whole thing.

As for 1,2 Switch I'm not sure it's even going to sell as much as Wii Music. 1st week sales in Japan were not great, about in line with Nintendo Land which didn't take the Wii U anywhere. It does have the benefit of little competetion and the only other Switch game that really has any marketing. But if it was going to become a casual craze, I think you would start to have some indications of that by now, but there's not much of that. No one is really talking about this game, there's no buzz on social media about it, no "hey wacky Jen brought over this 1,2 Switch to our house party it was awesome!" type stuff.

I understand Nintendo had to at least try one more time, but the age of the mini-game-a-thon for $40-$50 being a thing is I think ... simply in the past.

From what I'm seeing from this and everything that came before, definitely not worth the price

Would make sense as a pack-in title, but that will come later..

Do you really want a game that isn't that popular as a pack-in though? I think Nintendo made the right choice not to pack it in because it would make the system seem like a gimmick.

Charging $50 for it though is batshit insane.

as people have said, this game really is a glorified tech demo. this kind of thing would have been good to show off HD rumble at E3 or some other gaming expo, but i can barely even call it a game. beyond that i have no words for it. it is literally so underwhelming and stupid that i cant even find words to describe how i feel about it. i really want to know who thought it would be a good idea to release 1-2-Switch as a full game

What's more insane is that my gf wants to play this, so I gotta shell out 50 bucks before the inadvertable price cut lol. But it's not all bad, she typically doesn't like to play video games, so I guess that personal proof of the audience that the game is geared to (though I am curious to try them all out myself).

On the plus side it being so early in the Switch cycle and if it does fizzle out will probably just send the message loud and clear to Nintendo that the Wii era is over and it's simply time to move on. I think they know it too (which is why it's not a pack in game), but they wanted to try one more time.

Switch can be perfectly successful without casuals, the fact that it's a hybrid differniates it enough and gives it enough appeal outside of the PS4/XB1 to have its own place in the market. Nintendo doesn't need to do all these crazy/deserpate things, just make fun games. Splatoon, Xenoblade, Mario Odyessy, etc. just make them and make sure they are of extremely high quality. And keep marketing the thing. When you can drop the price, drop it.

There's not much else to it than that.

You don't have to play it if you don't want to

But at least having a game to show off what the Joy-cons are capable of is never a bad thing and could potentially make some people buy the Switch as it comes with a free game

The Joycons are honestly just tech everyone is familiar with by now, I mean ok the rumble is a little more nuanced, that's not wowwing anyone in 2017. What exactly is shown off ... the guys on Game Informer said that 1,2 Switch in many cases will give people a negative impression of the machine overall because it's so pointless at times, there's only really 1 or 2 minigames that really show off the Joycons in a novel way and even those get old after a few tries.

Everyone by now has played their fill of Wii Sports/Kinect Sports/Move Sports/Wii Fit/EA Active/Samba Dance/Deca Sports/Just Dance 1928283/Just Dance for Kids/Just Dance For Pets/Just Dance for Axe Murderers etc. etc. Moving your arms around in mini-games to do stuff just isn't impressive.

The Switch needs a hook and needs to be different but that's already accomplished by the hybrid nature of the device. That's good enough, all Nintendo needs to do now is make sure there are great games on the system released a regular clip. That's about all they can do.

I can´t get enough of just Dance for Pets! But I agree, Just Dance for Axe Murderers was too niche for my taste, still waiting for Just Dance for Murderers in Gereral, which shall attract a more broad demographic.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.
