I'm not saying the Switch needs to beat Wii U + 3DS to make Nintendo a successful console. I'm saying that's the gen over gen comparison. If it fails to beat them Nintendos market share declines. That's a talking point.

I don't see anybody on the monthly ps3 vs PS4 comparison articles saying "oh this is pointless ps4 can't be compared to ps3" because no matter what happens ps4 will be more successful to Sony. "

Unless you consider home & portable consoles separate markets. Note how on the front page 3DS/Vita is separated from PS4/XBO/WiiU.

It seems like Switch is headed for 100% market share on the handheld front. All it has to do is beat Wii U's market share on the home front.

hope that Japan would have stock of Switch and continue a good number in terms of sales, else it would just drop to lower levels. let's wait and see its second week (or 1st full week?).

I meant Nintendo's share of the gaming market.  Or their hardware install base.  If switch doesn't beat 3DS + Wii U then it will be the second generation in a row showing decline for Nintendo. 

That's why I corrected myself.  I was using the wrong term.  Nintendo's install base is the correct one 

Scalpers, many of them will sell back to asian market like in south east Asia (singapore ), hongkong, and Taiwan

could be. but south east asia would also have a fair amount of consoles to be sold onto retailers. South East Asian region is tagged together with Europe, so it could have English language as the primary language.  Not sure if a Japanese switch would have Japanese/English language though.
