I'm a big fan of VII but I'm open to them changing from the old game. I don't think the old game with a new coat of paint would be as fun today as what I enjoyed 20 years ago. FFXV has a great game engine and world IMO - it is just lacking in story and some parts are too linear. A FFVII story in a FFXV engine sounds pretty cool. I'll reserve judgement.

I would have just as much fun. Even more with modern graphics. I still like turn based. I miss those games. I have nothing against FF15 as a game, but I don't feel it should he named FF.

Are you sure there will be the same general story, music, towns, etc? It's not sounding like it. I did like the Midgar beginning quite a bit though. That could turn out well.

They've gone on record saying that the reason the game is split up into multiple games is because they want to try to fit everything that was in the original game, into this one, with today's visual fidelity.

"If we were to try to fit everything into one installment, we would have to cut various parts and create a condensed version of Final Fantasy VII. But there would be no point in doing that," added Nomura. "For instance, players will be able to explore many different areas of Midgar in this game that they couldn’t access in the original─if we’re remaking this world, we want to add in areas like this and depict them with real detail.

I'm sure some things won't make it into the remake, but where did you get an indication that the game won't feature most of the towns, story, music, etc?

Because SE previously said that a remake of FF7 would take like 20 years to remake the towns. Also, if the story wouldn't make sense with Crisis Core or Dirge of Cerberus, then they must be changing too much. So why would Nomura stop with just the story. Nubuo Uematsu won't he back for the soundtrack. :(

There is no doubt about it, there will be changes.

In the original FF7, Sephiroth never showed off his black wing.

I never played VII so I'm indifferent about the changes being made.

I was excited at first, but the more I learn about ff7 remake, the less excited I am. No turn based fights. No original plot. It is a retelling from what I've heard... Whatever that means?

We have known all this since 2015.

Personally, I think its great. I have experience FF7 in its entirety a few times. I look forward to a new take on the original game. If story elements are changed, cool. If the combat is different, cool. Its an adaptation and the best thing about adaptations that dont follow each other 100% is that you get unique and different experiences of the same work.

Im down for all these changes. Maybe it ends up an inferior game for it, but at least it will be a different experience. And if I want the original, Ill just play the original.

Some people, me included, never played the original and having a remake coming out would be a nice way to play that old game on nice visuals, there are many games that grow old fine, FF7 isn't of them.  Now imagine if the remake ends up being completely different and mediocre compared to the old one, it's not only going to ruin the FF7 remake reputation itself but the original would end up getting hurt as well, especially with the quantity of people that will first experience FF7 on it's remake.

That's why good remakes are the ones that only brings that old game in fresh visuals, music and taking the flaws from the original away, now changing everything in game even the original gameplay and only keeping the story...this remake might fail miserably, i hope i'm wrong.

I'm indifferent and I'm laughing at everyone who didn't expect this.

Personally, I think I'm over Final Fantasy. I feel sad about that, as it was my absolute favorite series for a long time, but the direction they seem to be headed isn't for me.

Oh, well. I'll find something else to play. If they no longer want me as a customer and a fan then so be it.

Well... i get worried. FF7 had a winning formula. All they needed was to upgrade the graphics and everyone would be happy.
By re-inventing they risk breaking the winning formula. So, yeah... that worries me.

Most of all i worry they will dumb it down into FFXV kind of combat. But i have a bit more trust on Nomura than Tabata.

They still do DQ and it looks like that won't ever change.

Initially i was excited, but the more I learn the more I worry. I'm reserving most my judgement until we see more. I don't think SE are dumb enough to screw this baby up.... Or are they? xD
