Forums - Gaming - Is the switch going to have a bigger launch than the PS4? And Zelda vs Horizon...

We will probably get UK numbers on monday.

Should be fun.

In Horizon's case with its meta, I have a feeling it was trolled really hard. Perhaps they were trying to snuff out the high score for this PlayStation exclusive title as to not be above the comparable Zelda that would be releasing right away directly after it.

I can see why it could scare a critic. After all Horizon is in my opinion absolutely awesome, beautiful, and fun to play. I am totally happy with it and the it's the best game I've bought this year.

Zelda seems to my perspective received the positive trolling treatment.

Feeling like some might have turned tides to the their belief about things especially just because of Zelda. Here is a sandbox, 30 (ish) fps , washed out color, 900/720p, and single player.

The biggest kicker according to the meta's as to what makes a better game is this next little tid-bit....

... Horizon had full voice actors on quests. It got critisized for having some bad actors at some parts. Compare that to Zelda, as it is lots of reading text of what is being said.

Rofl OP really keeps digging a hole for himself in this thread. It's pretty clear you are making assumptions on Zelda. Pretty much all of them wrong. You might want to play both before making threads like this.

Is this a thread about Switch sales or a not-so-covert way for you to whine about Metascores? Because a majority of your title says the former and 99% of your OP says the latter.

2 games with different approach, U prefer what you like and others do, If a game gets these great reviews and it's much to your playing style then U just can't miss it, this game (Zelda) will go down in video games history

I work at a major electronics retailer that doesn't do pre-orders, so we still deal with old school "first come first served" lines. We sold through 112 Switches, and less than half of the line got one (didn't count everyone, but I'd say we powered through maybe 40% of the line before we ran out).

We ran out of our 63 copies of Breath of the Wild after the first 63 Switches sold; that is a 100% attach rate that got broken not by disinterest, but stock issues. The remainder of the ones who got Switches purchased prepaid eshop cards (I wonder why), and a dismissive number of people purchased other games.

Zelda sold exceedingly well. It took a full day to run out of 25 copies of Horizon, but only an hour to burn more than twice that number of BotW. The 15 Wii U copies we had were gone before 1pm.

The Switch launch, like most high profile console launches, was a massive success.

Any suspected scalpers in the mix?

Dude, did you ever play both games? zelda is kinda empty in the first 30 minutes, you know why? cause the great plateau is the tutorial area, once you leave that area and start exploring the game becomes the most deep and immersive game i've ever played, it's amazing how alive the world feels and horizon is nowhere close to it, i finished both and horizon is more like an interactive movie, it has a slow start and it takes forever til you are able to start the game, the tutorial part in the beginning when aloy is a kid is boring and it reminds the new god of war trailer, while zelda botw is more focused on the gameplay and details, horizon is more focused on delivering graphics and a hollywood story.

That's why horizon scored less than zelda, uncharted 4, last of us. It's because it doesn't bring anything new from what the other franchises brought, the reviews of zelda isn't based on nostalgia, most of the outlets scored less than 88 in the previous zelda franchise, if the game is getting praised by EVERYONE, it's because something right the game did. It's getting embarassing to watch all these people that didn't even finished both games come here and embarass themselves saying it's based on nostalgia, i didn't see any of these on the uncharted 4 claiming it only got 92 cause of nostalgia from the other 3 games, this nostalgia argument is embarassing.

LOL DUDE, YOU are embarrassing. Did you honestly just make that comment??? LMFAO! And you're gonna state that I am embrrassing myself? Don't waste yourself, pleaseeee.

Uncharted has NOWHERE near the level of nostalgia-factor that Zelda's 20+ years in the industry has earned. Zelda has been around almost since gaming has been reborn with the NES and has been on over 6 different consoles. Uncharted has only just come out in 2007 and has been on 2 consoles and by far and away does not even come close to getting nostalgia status. Do you even know what nostalgia means???

It means the more years pass after a game is released the more nostalgia grows, the more people are anticipating a sequel. An example of this works is Duke Nukem Forever, the game has been waited by fans for a very long time and it received a lot of praise for it once released. Am I getting it right?

But I don't understand why you care about  someone downplaying UC4 scores, after all reviews are "nothing more than a means to promote a game".

Dude, it's not like I'm completely in the dar about the BotW just because I haven't had any hands on with it. I will eventually play Zelda but not for a while so I am currentl;y watching let's play videos of the game and I must admit...after coming off of Horizon the new Zelda just doesn't impress me. Horizon for me had this INSTANT wow-factor that is hard to explain. The world just feels 10X bigger than that of Zelda's even though it may or may not be the case. The battle system in Horizon is FAR more engaging and epic. I don't know, I guess Zelda isn't my cup of tea anymore. Horizon's style and execution appeals to my tastes quite a bit more. I love when a game can be a game and also be highly cinematic. Horizon pretty much nailed it!

Btw, this is coming from someone who was not even looking forward to Horizon. I was actually expecting the worst for this game since I was never a fan of the Killzone games and what does GG know about open worldrpg's?

Anyway, whatever. It is what it is, but as far as I'm concerned if Zelda is a 98 than Horizon is a 100. And even I know Horizon shouldn't be a 100. Just my two cents.

Well, I  will admit it started off as a console sales thread but then in my post I mentioned the Zelda thing and I guess I kinda went out on that more than I should have, I will admit.

The thing is, I'm just amazed by the art of "opinion." I mean, for me, I can play both Zelda and Horizon and both will be like in their 90's for me I'm sure. Hell, Ocarina of Time was one of the greatest things I've ever played in its time. I don't understand why some reviewers had to score Horizon so low like it is a problematic game because the thing is optimized to perfection. The least it should get is a 7 because it has no technical flaws, the gameplay is beautiful and the graphics are the best in the industry.Too many positives so it confuses me as to why Zelda is a "10 points higher better kind of game."

For me, it just shows that people are just too in love with Zelda and they cannot accept the fact that something like Horizon can be almost or even on par with it. OH THE TRAGEDY! That's all.
