Forums - Gaming - The switch launch feels very quiet...

Not sold out in New Zealand, every store here has stock. Probably due to it being 550NZD for the console itself when the 1TB PS4Slim is 530 with Uncharted 4 and Horizon.

yeah because Nintendo games ever had huge Twitch viewership (ridiculous).

its a spring console release, which is quite unorthodox. The only reason system launches usually have such insane launch hype (and for that matter third party support usually) is because they're generally released around the holidays.

The holidays is the difference here, and precisely why Nintendo is staggering releases

I agree very much. I don't hear a whole lot of ppl discussing it or much display at my stores. It feels incredibly quiet. PS4 and XB1 by contrast were heavily advertised on tv and in stores. Plus it's almost spring which already feels weird because most console launches I know have always been in the fall/winter months.

Nintendo launches arent like their competition. They ship less in an effort to gain buzz off of scarcity. Sony doesnt use scarcity to create buzz, they create buzz by selling to as many people as they can. Its the exact opposite.

Well they shipped 2 million units and its all sold out. How is selling 2 million units "quite"

I want to make some corrections and clarifications.

The Wii U sold 3.06m in 41 days, or as you put it in the first 2 months of availability or in the year it launched (2012). It launched in late November.

Oh and since i quoted Stage... /points at PS VR

By all indications I've read, it's selling out everywhere, which was expected. So either they pulled a NES Mini and under-produced it again. Or, it's selling really well.

I don't understand this post - are you saying all of us are lying when we're saying that it's not sold out everywhere?

Except for the fact that 3DS & Wii U both had excess stock at launch and missed their fiscal year shipment goals and post-launch shipments were the lowest quarterly shipments they ever had.

Also where did the "Nintendo underships" argument come from? The only time that this seems to happen is when something sells better than expected like Wii, Amiibo, NES Classic & 3DS during holiday 2016.

When the herd loses its way, the shepard must kill the bull that leads them astray.

its a Wii U part 2! wont pass 30 mill units sold.

I think when most people say "Everywhere" they mean the shops/sites they have checked that is in their country. I mean, who got time to check every shop round the world?........

ANd are you expecting that it would be sold out everywhere?

Pocky Lover Boy!

I have found it interesting that I haven't seen a bunch of threads of gifs/pics of people waiting in long lines or rushing inside the store to get them. I thought we at least got the former when the Wii U launched.
