Forums - Nintendo - Switch Save Game Files Can't Be Transferred-They die with the system

Could it be like the 3DS? 3DS physical games save to the game card. I lost all my eshop game saves when doing a system transfer but when I put in MH4U it still had my save file on the game card.

I'm not too worried, the Switch is pretty barebones at the moment, but they will probably add functionality to fix this issue with patches

I'm betting there will be cloud saves with online service similar to other consoles' plans.

When I get home, I'll pop in my SD card and then see if I can move/copy my Zelda save. I have to try myself. :p

That´s weird. Is there anything official from Nintendo about that

  • You can activate one console at a time for your Nintendo Account. Your games are only playable on the current active console.
  • While a console is active for your Nintendo Account, everyone on the console can play the games you’ve purchased.
  • If you change the active console for your Nintendo Account, your games will not be playable on the deactivated system unless you make that the active one again for your Nintendo Account.
  • Save data (for digital AND physical games) cannot be transferred between systems.
  • Physical games are not tied to a specific console or Nintendo Account, and can be played on any system you like.

Weird but considering how many things the switch lacks is not surprising

They probably fix it eventually along with other stuff it's missing.

As in it can't be transferred from one Switch to another?

Isn't this kind of normal, though? If your PS4 suddenly dies I'm pretty sure that data is gone as well, is it not?

You can back them up to a external hard drive if you want.

Theres probably other solutions too.

Yup, like cloud storage.

I don't get it, why is this a big deal?

I move my saves between my PS4s all the time.... Just sayin

Does anyone else frequently find themselves saying "Well that's odd" in response to Switch news? :p

Trust me, you're not the only one.  The really bizarre thing, though?  Nintendo has been silent this whole time, just resting on the fact that Nintendo fans will buy it Day 1 without much info at all on the product.  Just a very generic idea of what the console does, with very few tidbits here or there.  The sad thing is they are right.  Of course, that just extends to their fans.  The steady stream of negative things about the device can not be good for future sales from general gamers.  Not when they are asking $360 for the console and game.  That's why you announce and then put out a steady stream of info about the device.  This way you can change/add anything that consumers dislike/want, to a reasonable extent.

To me, it's just more obvious, now, that this system was rushed.  God only knows why they felt the need to.  They are the only ones still invested in the HH market.  It should have been given a little more time in the oven.  Oh, and a Gorilla glass screen.

Jesus Christ Nintendo. It's a handheld and you can't backup saves? If you're 75 hours into Zelda and you drop it you're fucked.
This system is like 6 months too early.

yeah, that is really sad.
