Doesn't mention The Order:1886 or Knack (which is getting a sequel) in the list of 8th gen Sony exclusives.
While some might say such an article should only mention the good exclusives. One of the main points is Sony is more willing to let its 1st parties and partners take risks and explore new IP. They may not be great games, they may be bad games in the eyes of many, but Knack and The Order: 1886 are examples of taking risks. And as is the case with taking risks, you are all but guaranteed to have a few disappointments. An article that is meant to be talking about important differences in approaches to exclusives and new IP should talk about the rough and the smooth.
Also, name checks ReCore among the "worthy to mention" Xb one exclusives (

This "MS canceled Scalebound so they must be shit to work with!" narrative is funny. I'm fine with the games as a service direction MS going, because I enjoy online gaming and enjoy doing it on the best network. MS is never going to match what Sony does in volume of games, they've never even tried to. |
Still even without the Japanese games you have: The Last of Us 2, Horizon, God of War 4, Spiderman, Detroit, Days Gone, Dreams. Then you have the Japanese games that appeal to Westerners: Gran Turimo Sport and Death Stranding just to name a couple.
All those titles aside from Dreams are system sellers. I think the gap is bigger than you think.
6 of them are new IPs which is becoming more rare these days especially for first party. All are AAA aside from Dreams.
It's been a while since we had a list war. I just assumed everyone had given into Sony having the better list, for better or worse.

If you ignore a large section of games, and then pick and choose what you like it is clear any system has the best list. You would have to be Ludicrous to do that though. |
I just pick out all of the 85+ on Metacritic.

Please do not lump GT into the Japanese game category just because PD is based in Japan, LOL. It is a racing game. There is no Japanese flair or gameplay elements typical in Japanese games. We'll see on Death Stranding, too. Kojima games have been more and more westernized over time. And are you saying Spiderman is a new IP? Maybe my math is off.
Either way, that's a nice list. Off that list, I can guarantee I will own at least two, possibly four of those titles. I could make a similar list for upcoming Xbone games but there's no point.

I would actually enjoy a list of 5 good upcoming Xb1-only titles to justify a purchase for UHDBR, so please humor me.
