Just like the soulsbourne games. The level is just a suggestion. Depending on your skill level / patience when fighting bosses etc you can do it easy below, near or above.

Also, the amrita you gain when the suggested level is higher will help you level up quicker.

Now that I have seen the full game. Something I realized I found funny. Ni-Oh's plot has a lot of shared elements from Ninja Gaiden III plot. You know the most hated NG game.Yes I know of Muramasa from NG is in the game and some DW references as well.

You have a cloaked figure taunting you from the begining you think is the main baddy. He takes a female you care about to use her to make some ultimate form of power creature in the end. Dee working on mutants and you go to area full of them in glass testing tubes and they break out to attack. You have a boss fight where what you once thought a bad guy is actually just testing you and not such a bad guy. There is more it ha sin common as well.

You can replay missions again, including side missions....
