This topic is for a couple people. Those who like Persona and those who never playe dbut curious.

Persona 5 will be here in April so not a long wait well unless you need a Persona fix NOW DAMMIT! :P.

I feel Persona is a series the further you go back the harder it is to get into for a newcomer. So if you are curious to play the series. Try Persona 4 Golden. Easily a modern classic in RPGs. One of the best there is in the genre no joke. I'd hold it as high as the likes of FFVI or Chrono Trigger. Sure different kinds of RPGs but still one amazing game. One problem. It's on Vita. So if you don't have one the vanilla version is on PS2. That said I have good news. While not exact you can get a taste of it in 2 2016 games, One of them by Atlus themselves and the other by Namco.

These 2 games are Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE and Digimon Cyber Sleuth.

Let's start with Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE.

Yes this game deals with Idol culture and very Japanese. I know nothing of Idol culture and I do not care. It doesn't matter much. Story maybe simple and center around Idol culture but the characters are so enjoyable it doesn't matter much.  A mirage is the same as a Persona. You don't need knowledge of SMT or Fire Emblem to enjoy the game. The dungeons are very Persona like with light puzzle elements to navigate at times.

The Battle system is turn based but fear not turn base sceptics,it's amazing. It's very accessible.  Once you know weakness of an enemy and get Sessions going it's a breeze. If you played Code of Princess or Grandia you will get how the bar works. If you hit an enemy at their weakness you trigger a session where other party members active or not join in using only a single turn. It's a lighthearted game oozing with charm and character. It does not have social links Persona does and that's the biggest difference.

Digimon Cyber Sleuth.

I have only played a few hours so my experienc eis limited. Now if you are an avid Pokemon fan only or know nothing of Digimon. Doesn't matter. Music and dungeons,presentation def feel Peraona like. In fact the hub world is very Persona. What is is a little different is like SMT or Pokemon you capture monsters evolve them and have them fight. I guess like Pokemon your avatar doe snot fight just the monsters. So in that regard it's Pokemon. Everything else is SMT/Persona ish.

So if you have suggestions feel free.

There's also Persona 1 & 2, which are three great games, though the releases of them can get complicated and expensive.

Caligula (English title: I Can't Believe It's Not Persona) should be out soon in the west.

I didn't know about this game, so thanks man. Interesting choice of name. I guess enough time has passed that such a shifty character can have a game named after him.
